I am starting to agree with people that 1080p might be worth it. Looks like the quality really is there for the 2009 episodes. I hope you reconsider doing this in 1080p.

  2. Anon writes:

Shitty overrated show is shitty and overrated
don’t listen to these fags and do whatever you want

  3. Gar writes:

I hope that you decide to do it.

  4. asdasdasd writes:

    me too…

  5. IZEROII writes:

@Anon good comment dumbass. You and the other “fags” both say do whatever you want. Classic retard.

I do hope those conditions are met though. Even just a 720p would be appreciated.

The conditions will be met. I am just postponing a decision until they are.

  6. Desert_Fox writes:

they should make Suzumiya Haruhiko no Yuutsu…

and then Kyonko will be the next star πŸ˜€

ohhh i can’t imagine how awesome Kyonko in 1080p πŸ˜€

  7. me writes:

they’ll do what they want and don’t care about our opinion. just stop giving sugestions/asking things because they aren’t even listening to this.

  8. RoadSign writes:

I just downloaded the delicio.us 1080p version and I could confirm what coalgirls said about the quality. Its really a goddammit upscale, but not so bad. At least OP/ED were totaly remade, and its gorgeous!

    Nah…720p is good enough.
With the link that “sensei” provided on the previous page, I did a quick comparison using PS, and I have to say, this really is some ugly upscale. Seriously, smooth things out to point that even noises look unnatural is just wrong. (And the bug scene, that thing just doesn’t look right on its Blu-ray version.) Seriously, Coalgirls made a correct choice, making a 1080p version of this thing is just wasted effort, it’ll only serve to turn ugliness into hideosity.

Our primary encoding farm consists of 5 x q6600, a pair of P4 xeons(Share/PD) stuff, and a 6core file server with 4TBs in RAID5 hardware.
    .
For haruhi coalgirl is basically tasking up the entire farm πŸ™‚

  15. Ross writes:

    thanks tenshi and coalgirls!

  16. IZEROII writes:

….damn that is a beast “farm”

  17. tormaid writes:

    @Tenshi
Haha, sounds awesome! This is the first time I’ve heard about your workflow and it sound pretty insane.

  18. Gar writes:

Very excited for this πŸ™‚ Thanks!

What resolutions do people here usually download? I’m curious as to whether I should change from 720p to 1080p. I have decent amount of space and a display that is 55″ but is it worth the time and space?

  20. Anonymouse writes:

It’d be nice to know if the 2009 eps have been produced in proper 1080p quality. I’ve only got the raw for ep1 so far which is 2006, and despite the crappy upscaling in the main part of episode, at least the OP/ED looked like it was redone nicely. Would be shame if 1080p was justified for the 2009 eps but weren’t released as such, but then again, I don’t know if coalgirls would be loathe to doing half the eps at one resolution and the rest in another.

Though personally, I only intend to grab the 2009 eps in HD, and (NC)OP/ED for 2006 from whoever releases those. Gonna stick to the DVD rips for 2006 for archiving due to the better perceived detail instead of the hideous oversmoothing on the blu-rays.

  21. Krabbsaltarn writes:

Just wanted to ask how CG is planning to release the episodes, chronological or as they were aired?
    Cheers.

  22. skyhack writes:

Great show is great, even if some don’t get it. 1080p would be most welcome, but I’ll take any encode you do, since I know it’ll be better than my $200 Deluxe box set.

  23. skyhack writes:

22 cores! Can I be your dog?

  24. H writes:

Are afk’s subs modified or just chihiro’s?

Just Chihiro’s. And that’s just stripping honorifics and aligning name order to afk.

  25. Bakemonofan writes:

Will you release both seasons in the same batch, 1 torrent for each seasons or individual episodes?

btw, Are you planning on doing the movie?

    Thx for the info

  26. Nukel writes:

Hm, so you are gonna release them in the airing order? To be honest, I saw it as it aired, and I think that the chronological order (ie. not the scrambled TV ordering) was better, the scrambling seems random at best.

  27. coalgirls writes:

Nukel, they won’t be numbered. You can watch it in any order you want when it’s complete by just clicking on a play all file.

  28. Gar writes:

Wow you are going so fast!

  29. cking543 writes:

not that I’m being impatient but what does it mean when it says subs are “waiting”?. i assume the subs are there and they need to be muxed/timed?

  30. David88 writes:

    Fuck Yeah!

  31. DustZ writes:

Whoa the fonts are crazy big on ED1.

  32. cking543 writes:

@DustZ, the entire episode has outrageous font. not sure whats going on…

  33. cking543 writes:

also, the OP won’t play when you run the whole episode

  34. cking543 writes:

sorry, didnt read the guide under the chart lol

  35. reculeor writes:

The subs are beyond huge; the font size should have been 48, not 72. There’s also a tad too many 3-liners.

Hence why it’s fixed in the torrent above.

  36. anon writes:

Do you guys plan to release everything before the movie?

  37. Valdearg writes:

Great work with these, thanks a lot.

I’m currently seeding the torrent at about 12MB/s but we’re all stuck at 99.9% and need the file MB! Can someone seed the last amount?!

  38. Kimmy writes:

Thanks very much for this. Will definitely seed.

  39. AsakuraYoh writes:

Same as Valdearg… stuck at 99.9%… there’s a piece missing in “The melancholy of Suzumiya II” episode….

    Thanks!

  40. reculeor writes:

Having the torrent at 99.9% is intentional. Usually to make sure people seed properly before letting it complete.

Thanks for fixing the font size.

  41. cking543 writes:

question, afk did all of season 1 as well as season 2. why only use afk for season 1 and switch to chihiro for season 2?

    Because afk hardsubbed.

  42. cking543 writes:

also im having a bit of trouble with The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya part I. the OP won’t play properly when the episode plays. anyone else have this problem?

  45. Tappen writes:

These ordered chapters are so troublesome. Are the Op or Ed playing for anyone? No luck here on any of these 4 episodes. I’d be totally up for downloading an extra 100MB per episode without ordered chapters.

  46. anon writes:

    @Tappen
I was having this issue in MPC-HC (svn build), make sure to disable “Matroska” in Internal Filters settings and download/install the latest Haali Media Splitter. It worked for me.

  47. Tappen writes:

Thanks anon, I tried re-installing the latest Haali (1.10.348.15) but I had it already. Still no luck. If Media Player Classic (10/10/2010 CCCP edition) starts in the main section the OP and ED have no video (audio is ok) and if it starts in an OP or ED the main video doesn’t show.

Using MkvMerge and MkvExtractGUI2 to try to append the files myself, removing all chapters, it says the internal codec id for the video sections is different and probably can’t be appended successfully, and sure enough it’s correct: even without the ordered chapters MPC won’t play the 2 types of video as a single file.

  48. hugin writes:

These ordered chapters don’t work for me either. Whenever episode moves into OP or ED part it simply crashes MPC. I have the latest version of CCCP installed and all others releases that I have which use ordered chapters with OP and ED in separate files are working properly.

  49. ano writes:

    OP and ED is fine.

No one cares if it works for you or not (unless there’s something wrong with the file itself, duh) and no one can help you to make it work without details.

  50. ano writes:

    MPC-HC 1.4.2499.0

considering 2010-10-10 is the latest the issue for you guys is that you either aren’t trying enough or your computers are full of crap that’s not supposed to be there.
