The CRC for The_Melancholy_of_Haruhi_Suzumiya_III is incorrect. Correct CRC is [C80E4042]
Tenshi Note
With season 2, coalgirl didn’t want to do it, so I picked it up.
I believe the problem is in the files, not my setup. I’ve tried on a 32-bit and 64-bit computer, and the 32-bit is a pristine 10-10-2010 CCCP player install.
When I extract just the video and first audio tracks from Episode 00 and the ED into new mkv files, then try to append them together using MkvMerge I get the following:
Warning: The track number 1 from the file ‘E:\Video\Haruhi\ED1.mkv’ can probably not be appended correctly to the track number 1 from the file ‘E:\Video\Haruhi\Episode_00.mkv’: The codec’s private data does not match (lengths: 43 and 42). Please make sure that the resulting file plays correctly the whole time. The author of this program will probably not give support for playback issues with the resulting file.
Warning: The track number 2 from the file ‘E:\Video\Haruhi\ED1.mkv’ can probably not be appended correctly to the track number 2 from the file ‘E:\Video\Haruhi\Episode_00.mkv’: The FLAC header data is different for the two tracks (lengths: 154 and 154) Please make sure that the resulting file plays correctly the whole time. The author of this program will probably not give support for playback issues with the resulting file.
Which is why I think these two files can’t be virtually appended using ordered chapters either.
I tested the files, they’re working fine. So something’s wrong with your setup.
That post makes me believe the problem is in neither the files or your setup.
It’s in you. Congratulations.
Hi I’m also having this problem & i think the torrent is miss up . Tappen did u download the torrent too ?
I can confirm the files working on my set up as well. I don’t use CCCP. My Haali is the version that came bundled in with CoreAVC, 1.9.335.21 it says in the bottom left. CoreAVC handling video, and it looks like FFDShow is decoding the audio. My FFDShow is the latest beta from their sourceforce page. MPC is version 1.4.2748.0
And I downloaded the files directly (not a torrent) if you think that might have something to do with it.
Thanks for the video, looks great.
i’m having the same problems as well. i noticed that if i switch my h264 decoder from ffmpeg-mt to libavcodec, i can get it to play the op, but then i get crashes when i seek. not sure what’s causing all this.
nevermind, that’s weird. just updated to the latest svn of ffdshow and now all’s working perfectly.
I managed to solve the issue by changing video decoder from ffdshow to CoreAVC.
God the sooner “packs” like CCCP and K-Lite die the better.
You don’t need all that crap, all you need are 3 things.
1. MPC-HC latest svn build http://www.xvidvideo.ru/media-player-classic-home-cinema-x86-x64
2. ffdshow latest svn build http://www.xvidvideo.ru/ffdshow-tryouts-project-x86-x64
3. Halli media splitter http://haali.su/mkv
Set MPC-HC output to EVR Custom Pres. if your on windows Vista & 7 or to VMR-9 (renderless) if your on XP. Set trasform filters to use DXVA, make sure you have the latest directx/graphics driver updated. And if anyone says to use CoreAVC smack them in the face and yell “DXVA BITCH”
And if that still doesn’t work you should probably use VLC or not download HD videos and stick to hardcoded 480p AVI’s
Navitron
Well, yes. but people seem to fail miserably even with the pack that are guaranteed (pretty much) to work so making them download everything they need seperately and setting it all up and maybe even unzipping(?) may be asking for trouble 😉
I agree on k-lite tho.
sticking with doki for this one (at least until the bugs from coalgirls are fixed in batches)
I don’t know about anybody else but I was having the same problem too. All I did though was change the folder name and I was able to play the video’s perfectly fine.
Has anyone else tried appending Epi 00 to the ED to create a non-ordered chapters version and gotten the MkvMerge warning like I did?
Either my files are corrupted in some way (probably not since they play fine independently) or else the 2 files were encoded differently enough that some decoders (ffmpeg-mt from 2010 CCCP in my case) can’t handle the transition from 1 encoding header type to another in a single file (or an ordered chapter file).
I’d prefer not to go and install new MPC-HC and ffdshow constantly from nightly builds, that’s just asking for trouble, though I would understand it if there hadn’t been a proper tested release quite recently.
It crashes here if I seek between OP and main file. Sometimes it passes, sometimes it crashes. This is due to DXVA. With software codec like CoreAVC it works.
This with the latest MPC-HC beta, but also one from months ago doesn’t work.
Don’t you mean “achronological”?
Sorry to report, but I’m experiencing playout issues from ordered chapters too. Using MPC (from K-Lite CP) as well as VLC on Win7/x64/DXVA. MPC crashes when skipping or just going to a specific location, and VLC freezes when reaching the ordered chapters. Without the OP/ED, things are (almost) fine (not a video expert, but VLC seems to have trouble getting to the closest previous key frame when skipping, so you get weird backgrounds until next key frame. As the version of VLC I use is probably a bit old, feel free to ignore that issue).
If not on these files, I’m sure you’ll fix these problems as you go along, so just keep up the good work (which is very much appreciated!), and when you have a chance, please double check your ordered chapter settings for potential issues.
I might have told you before, but anachronological (which I still doubt actually pops up in a dictionary; I’ve never seen anachronism turned adverb) is not the same as achronological (which is the word you’re looking for) even if it existed.
@fnord
Apparently.
Source: Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913)
Anachronic \An`a*chron”ic\, —> Anachronical <— \An`a*chron"ic*al\,a.
Characterized by, or involving, anachronism; anachronistic.
Not that I care. Every language is dead on the internet anyway.
'Key Terms
achronological/anachronological: Prof. Croxall suggests the former term to describe stories that have nothing to do with time or in which time is a non-issue and the latter term to describe stories that are not arranged in the order of time.'
Funny how the only proper mentioning of achronological (except wiktionary.org) on the internet is one found while searching for the other.
tl;dr Languages evolve/degrade and you're a failing troll.
Seriously? A dictionary from 1913? Why not cite Shakespeare?
I don’t know who that Professor is, but I’m not sure he fully grasps the difference between the ana- and the a- prefix in (Ancient) Greek – which is, after all, the language from which this is loaned in the first place.
You’ve correctly identified that neither term normally shows up in dictionaries; so why make a neologism in the first place, and one which doesn’t observe the rules it’s supposed to obey at that?
Whatever the fuck you think a troll is, man. Anachronological is wrong here and it’s a mystery to me how with any kind of decent education you can possibly believe otherwise.
How about you rather provide me with citations that ana- can be used as a negatory prefix? Good luck with that.
any plans on doing the haruhi movie as well?
My old AMD64 with NVidia 8300gs graphics was sputtering on this, so I tried Navitron’s suggestion. Worked like a champ. Had never heard of ffdshow-tryouts before, which is odd, as long as I’ve been doing this.
>720p
>16 ref frames so no DXVA for ATI HD without UVD2
Why would you do that? T______________T
encoding efficiency > compatibility
Now all you need are 16 b-frames >____>
In second 4ep batch “The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi Part 3” has CRC 85749AAB in filename, but the actual CRC is 3A88E660. Could you please specify which one is correct, i.e. whether file in batch is corrupt or CRC in filename is incorrect? Thanks.
CRC in filename is incorrect. 3A88E660 is what it should be.
In terms of DXVA compatibility its always better to go with Nvidia. You can get a cheap VP4 Nvidia card like the GT 210 for $25 if you shop around. I bought my little sister one since her processor is to slow to run 1080p. Funny thing is my little sisters fanless $25 video card can play more videos in DXVA then my GTX 260 since mine is only VP2.
For best future proofing go with a VP4 card http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PureVideo#Table_of_PureVideo_.28HD.29_GPUs
I just can’t understand why 16 ref frames. The original BD has 2 ref frames. At 720p the max frames for Bluray players compatibility is 9 ref frames. (L4.1 profile)
This decision only makes the file incompatible with a lot of BD/HDD external players out there.
@Navitron: Thanks but I only have AGP for now. In my next PC I’ll install an Nvidia card for sure.
Why 16? Because I’m not encoding for your shitty hardware acceleration. Defend it all you want, but if it cannot keep up with technology, it’s shitty. Buy a real computer. I’m playing it perfectly on a dual core 2.20 GHz laptop from 2007, I’m sure you can to.
I’ll take the fact that 16 refs lowers filesize by 15-20% over that.
You tell them Coalgirl!
mmm question.
[Coalgirls]_The_Melancholy_of_Haruhi_Suzumiya_-_The_Melancholy_of_Haruhi_Suzumiya_III_(1280x720_Blu-Ray_FLAC)_[85749AAB]
in the torrent, but
[Coalgirls]_The_Melancholy_of_Haruhi_Suzumiya_-_The_Melancholy_of_Haruhi_Su
zumiya_III_(1280x720_Blu-Ray_FLAC)_[3A88E660] on fileserve…
which is the right one?
ChrisK: As you can read 5 comments above, the CRC in the name of the file in the torrent is incorrect. Both files are identical, the CRC was just fixed in the filename on Fileserve.
oh, sry, the rants about compatibility for dxva and 16 frames stuff distracted me (read: I ignored it all). thanks for answering so fast.

the ddl is down
probably there uploading the full batch
Were there creditless OP/EDs by any chance?
Is the DDL link above supposed to have all the completed EP or just the OP and ED? Coz those are the only files I can see in the download folder
Unfortunately Colagirls let me down this one time. Briefly watched 3 or 4 episodes from not even fully downloaded batch (it looks like everyone stuck at 99.7% at this moment) and spotted few encoding problems. Screenshots:

Reproduced on both MPC (via ffdshow) and VLC.
Check your playback settings and the CRC. The file on my computer looks like http://i55.tinypic.com/qzetea.png for the first picture.
All episodes got updated (see post), so the old ones were deleted and the new ones will be added soon.
Edit: DDLs updated!
Reproduced it in KMPlayer lately and it also had glitches. CRC is valid, both files are from the batch and also were checked successfully by utorrent.
P.S. Sorry for typo in group name in last comment.
Contacted our host. Seems the torrent had bad hashes. Will recreate/reseed
Ok, thats my bad on the bad torrent. One of our machines had a faulty stick of ram. Bad ram = bad hashes.
season 2 please
Is this the blu-ray release?
May I ask what the ordered chapter “issue” was?
Since it seemed to work on every rig that wasn’t bloated with crap…
16mb remaining (for 2 day already, down speed 0kbps, up speed 500kbps)… lolz, where seeder? =.=
The signs + songs track on Live Alive shows lyrics for the singing when it shouldn’t. The English lyrics are different than the Japanese ones, but it still shows the Japanese lyrics. Besides that though I haven’t noticed any other problems for season 1.
Oh wait I am experiencing the same kind of pixelation as Dvvarf is on Live Alive. I grabbed the files from the second torrent and the crc on the mkv checks out for me.
Just watched Live Alive and can confirm the glitches. mplayer reports some decoding-errors as well:

And … WHAT THE FUCK THEY TRANSLATED AND DUBBED THE SONG O_o omg my ears are bleeding … Well okay, the karaoke-subs are simply taken from the japanese version so they don’t fit to the liberal translation of what is sung. Maybe it would be a good idea to transcribe them from the english dub.
Getting the same corruption at the concert in episode Live Alive.
