Seriously it’s just impossible.. even with the 720p torrent with enough seeders I’m only getting 0.9kbs WTF IS WRONG TODAY? IRC at thora has a waiting time of 15 FIFTEEN hours and the torrents are playing crazy… why? WHY?!
I also experienced the same problem. It goes like this:
—-
07: ED->left over frame from the episode->Preview(suddenly sped up for 1 second at the beginning)
–
08: ED->left over frame from the episode->Preview
–
09: ED->white frame->Preview
——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
I have something similar here in ep 1 and 2. It’s like:
01: OP -> white and black screen blinking -> episode
02: OP -> left over frames from the prologue -> episode
From 3 onwards they are all fine.
–
I tried changing the time codes for the chapters, like ar (/?p=28&cpage=4#comment-1583) said earlier, but whenever I saved the chapters to the mkv, the linking stopped working. When I checked the xml everything was there, but it didn’t work. Weird, since I made changes to other OCs before and they always worked =/
Yeah Anm.
I think people forget that Coalgirls are doing a favour to all anime fans, so stop pushing it…if she needs a pause it’s because she needs it.
Hehe, nitpicking… Clannad needs to be perfect <3
————————————
As for CGi, lol, I don't blame them. Aside from OCs (which I'm not very fond of, specially if you are out of Windows), this release is pretty much… perfect :3. Nice video bitrate, flac and subs. Thora has only lame AC3 and Doki hasn't even started the 1080p. Plus, Doki will have less bitrate (don't know how will affect) and let's hope this time they DO the signs. They were all missing in Kanon.
————————————
And CGi at least gives a status… Thursday/Friday aren't far away. Doki has had the "Matte~" in the 1080p for a long while now =/
————————————
So Coalgirls <3 (are they CoalGirl"s" or it's just one "CoalGirl"? xD
you want the 16 hex values, you can leave them with 0x in front thats fine.
Then all u do when you mux is (make sure you have v3.2 or newer of Mkvtoolnix as well)
Under global tab, at the bottom below Tag File you’ll see:
Segment Info File
Just choose the xml with the browse and when you mux the file, it’ll write out that segment-uid rather than a random one. That way linking will always work.
Thanks for the tip, I didn’t know you had the possibility of specifying the UID in mkvmerge. I always muxed and then changed the UID with the header editor 😛
————————————
But I didn’t touch the OP/ED, the problem is when I change the time codes for the chapters in the episodes mkvs. When I change the OP end time and the episode start time, the link for the OP/ED disappears when I play the file. Weird, since if I extract the chapters file they are all there, with the corrects UIDs and all. I just changed the seconds to match the video keyframes =/
————————————
Anyway, I don’t know if that will fix that sync problem (it’s not “sync” exactly as the audio and video stay synced all the time, is that “blinking” and “part left from the prologue after the OP” xD
————————————
Can you manage to fix that? It’s no prob, but with that fixed this release will be completely perfect <3
Yeah… AC3? WTF was Thora thinking when they decided that? Not even DTS =/
————————————
I’m waiting for CGi, in fact, I already made a cover for the 12 DVD boxset :3 (I like having a nice box with a nice cover, even if that means only 2 eps fer DVD xD)
LOL, when earlier I said that the linking stopped working was because I had the chapter linking in Haali disabled, xD. I’m a cock. Well, even with that there’s no way to fix that “sync” problem. There has to be an I-frame on the chapter jump, and in the first two episodes that I-frame is far away. So, when the player switches from the OP to the episode, the decoder has to go back to the previous I-frame from the time of the switch, and decode rapidly from there till it catches up to where the actual chapter start time is :3
Sakura90. The only way to force I-frames in CRF encodes is doing 2-pass CRF since you need to use a QP file during stats to override frame type detection where you need an I-frame to be. Thora uses 2-pass CRF for most of their stuff, and it also comes out nicer than plain single pass CRF and 2-pass bitrate avg. Size is about the same as CRF but quality tends to be a little better overall.
Other than this mythical “2 pass CRF” that nobody but you has heard about (after asking some of the best encoders in the field), you may also encode 3 separate files. One for pre-OP, one for the episode, one for the preview. The first frame must be an I-frame.
What’s so mythical about it…It’s using CRF for stats pass, and Bitrate for 2nd pass….Set CRF do stats pass (pass 1), log bitrate avg that it calculates, input bitrate avg to pass 2, encode and profit.
It’s mixed 2-pass. I just call it 2-pass CRF, cause it’s basically that. Generate local stats in CRF mode, and globally allocate during 2nd pass with avg. target bitrate.
I see… ar, can a “transparent” re-encode be made with the additional I-frame where it should be? With “transparent” I mean without altering the quality. Or it’s much bother? I have MeGUI, if you like to explain a bit more about the QP file I can try to make something :3
—————
And I’m NOT nitpicking, I just like doing this for fun. No intention to criticize anyone ^^
I ran a few tests at CRF30 on 4000 frames. Surprisingly x264 is much more consistent than it was some time ago these days. It still mucks up the bitrate allocation around the split point, but it’s nowhere as bad as I expected. File size difference between 1 4000 frame file, and 2 * 2000 frames file was only 50KB.
================= http://privatepaste.com/8e2c527907 – 2000 frames (0-1999) http://privatepaste.com/cf327ae38e – 2000 frames (2000-3999)
================= http://privatepaste.com/61068c95e6 – 4000 frames (0-3999)
=================
The amount of frames for each type is identical when you add the 2*2000 against the 1*4000. The only difference is really adding the extra I-frame this way is it’s larger in size than it would be forcing it since it is the first frame of the video. I guess on a 1080p encode this could add overall upto 10mb at most. Not a huge deal. You can use QP files with Megui in 2-pass mode.
=================
http://privatepaste.com/9ffe94c300 – This is what a QP file looks like. It’s just a text file that you input as QP on 1st pass. The format is:
=================
Frame_Number Frame_Type QP_Value
Where Frame_Type = I i B b P p, and QP value = -1 for x264 detected, or > 0 for manually setting QP avg for the frame. -1 is what DarkShikari recommends to use.
Guys I come across as a noob, so pardon me, but I am running VLC and trying to run mkv with 5.1 flac on VLC player and while there is video, no audio is played through at all.
I am also interested in downsizing the mkv file for use with the iPad, is there any recommended program to do this? I tried using mkv tools, but to no avail.
Let’s see if I understood… in Ep02 the frames that necessarily need to be I-frames are 1473 and 29730 (the ones after OP/ED respectively). So the qp file should look like this:
—————-
1473 I -1
29730 I -1
—————-
Then, in AVS Creator I put source as progressive (check Anime) and choose Spline36 as filter (it says “neutral” and that’s what I want… neutral filtering :P).
In x264 settings, CRF 14 and in Advanced I put that qp file. Is it necessary to do 2 pass CRF? Or just with specifying the frames needed to be I-frames and one pass is enough?
you’d have:
——–
0 I -1
1473 I -1
29730 I -1
——–
In the QP file. I’m 99% the QP file has to be used during a stats pass (pass 1 of 2 pass) since otherwise x264 allocates frame types as it sees fit.

Though it’s perfectly understandable to not know that.
@Muffler Nl:
Episode 24 is the OVA and the Blu-ray version of Clannad After Story is not available yet, but CGi planned on using the DVD version since sometimes ago, anyway (they’ll probably work on the Blu-ray’s version once it’s out, which…I don’t when…)
Thank you very much, thank you very much, that’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me, it’s quite a bit bizar but things the way they are, I feel as if another life has begun for me, and if I had a cannon I would fire to add to the celebration time, but since I left me cannon at home I simply have to say: thank you very, very, very muuuuuuuch!
sorry for being a complete newbie for asking this, but how do i link the OP and ED to WMV when i play an episode? whenever i play an episode, it loops back to the start of the episode where the OP and ED should be, probably because it did not find the OP and ED and played the same file instead.. thank you in advance for any help..
@neiru37 You probably aren’t using a player capable of handling ordered chapters properly. For a common player with such capabilities check out http://www.cccp-project.net/
After that you’ll need the op/ed files in the same folder as the episodes to play them correctly.
WMV? Lol, this isn’t even WMV. Use MPC-HC or KMPlayer with Haali Media Splitter. In fact, any player with Haali should do.
——–——–——–
Thanks CoalGirls~! You’re even bothering to redo episodes 1 and 2 so they are up to our picky tastes :lol:. You really are perfect. We love you <3

hahahahahahahah sorry thats just funny. use the Direct Downloads if your that hard up.
lol
Just wait until the final batch… I’m pretty sure this is gonna find it’s way to BakaBT, and they are known for great speed.
@lol
LOL, epic fail.
There are no DDLs for ep 11-15 yet…
lol
lolx9001
btw 66,9……..
66,9% as well
I hope you get that PC up and running soon again.
Cool comparison…
Are there seeding problems again? It has stopped at 83,5%.
Is it possible that episode 7&8 720p on megaupload are different from the ones in the torrent…or is it only me? oO
any chances that u guys will do CLANNAD AFTER STORY too after this?
@Anonmoe there are still 38 seeds active for the 11-15 batch.
@HeavenlyStaRry
I would really enjoy having that in 1080p as well.
It must have been something wrong with my internet connection, it resumed dl’ing after some hours! ^^
After Story in 1080 sounds really nice. Hoho.
Especially Episode 16 @ 19:00 – 20:00 and Episode 18 in total.

Sakura90,
If you want to remux the OP/ED, you need to write out their original Segment UID with the mux.
You grab the segment UID from the original OP/ED files that work linked with MKVInfo CLI or GUI.
then create for each different one, so probably OP_seg.xml and ED_seg.xml
With this contents:
http://privatepaste.com/33579c274b
Of course you have to change the segment UID value that you obtain from mkvinfo.
mkvinfo cli will output like this:
+ Segment UID: 0x8c 0x0d 0xc8 0x0f 0x55 0xcb 0x4c 0x83 0xb6 0x6d 0x85 0x2d 0x31 0x17 0x1e 0xa3
you want the 16 hex values, you can leave them with 0x in front thats fine.
Then all u do when you mux is (make sure you have v3.2 or newer of Mkvtoolnix as well)

crf 14. Not constant bitrate. It’s allocated the same, except there’s an extra I frame in the 2nd and 3rd parts.

One tiny eenie wheenie bitsy question.
Does the final batch mean all files or 16-24?
@Muffer Nl:
It’s 1-24, just put the episodes that you have already downloaded into the final batch folder to save some times.
