I have something similar here in ep 1 and 2. It’s like:
01: OP -> white and black screen blinking -> episode

From 3 onwards they are all fine.

I tried changing the time codes for the chapters, like ar (/?p=28&cpage=4#comment-1583) said earlier, but whenever I saved the chapters to the mkv, the linking stopped working. When I checked the xml everything was there, but it didn’t work. Weird, since I made changes to other OCs before and they always worked =/

As for CGi, lol, I don't blame them. Aside from OCs (which I'm not very fond of, specially if you are out of Windows), this release is pretty much… perfect :3. Nice video bitrate, flac and subs. Thora has only lame AC3 and Doki hasn't even started the 1080p. Plus, Doki will have less bitrate (don't know how will affect) and let's hope this time they DO the signs. They were all missing in Kanon.

If you want to remux the OP/ED, you need to write out their original Segment UID with the mux.

You grab the segment UID from the original OP/ED files that work linked with MKVInfo CLI or GUI.

then create for each different one, so probably OP_seg.xml and ED_seg.xml

Of course you have to change the segment UID value that you obtain from mkvinfo.

mkvinfo cli will output like this:

you want the 16 hex values, you can leave them with 0x in front thats fine.

Then all u do when you mux is (make sure you have v3.2 or newer of Mkvtoolnix as well)

Under global tab, at the bottom below Tag File you’ll see:

Segment Info File

Just choose the xml with the browse and when you mux the file, it’ll write out that segment-uid rather than a random one. That way linking will always work.

But I didn’t touch the OP/ED, the problem is when I change the time codes for the chapters in the episodes mkvs. When I change the OP end time and the episode start time, the link for the OP/ED disappears when I play the file. Weird, since if I extract the chapters file they are all there, with the corrects UIDs and all. I just changed the seconds to match the video keyframes =/

Size is about the same as CRF but quality tends to be a little better overall.

Other than this mythical “2 pass CRF” that nobody but you has heard about (after asking some of the best encoders in the field), you may also encode 3 separate files. One for pre-OP, one for the episode, one for the preview. The first frame must be an I-frame.

What’s so mythical about it…It’s using CRF for stats pass, and Bitrate for 2nd pass….Set CRF do stats pass (pass 1), log bitrate avg that it calculates, input bitrate avg to pass 2, encode and profit.

It’s mixed 2-pass. I just call it 2-pass CRF, cause it’s basically that. Generate local stats in CRF mode, and globally allocate during 2nd pass with avg. target bitrate.

It still mucks up the bitrate allocation around the split point, but it’s nowhere as bad as I expected. File size difference between 1 4000 frame file, and 2 * 2000 frames file was only 50KB.

The amount of frames for each type is identical when you add the 2*2000 against the 1*4000. The only difference is really adding the extra I-frame this way is it’s larger in size than it would be forcing it since it is the first frame of the video. I guess on a 1080p encode this could add overall upto 10mb at most. Not a huge deal. You can use QP files with Megui in 2-pass mode.

Where Frame_Type = I i B b P p, and QP value = -1 for x264 detected, or > 0 for manually setting QP avg for the frame. -1 is what DarkShikari recommends to use.

In the QP file. I’m 99% the QP file has to be used during a stats pass (pass 1 of 2 pass) since otherwise x264 allocates frame types as it sees fit.
