Its season 1. We will not be doing Pure Engagement.

But thanks for a FLAC ver of Sekirei XD

hmmm…I was thinking of watching this one day. Polished also did the BDs. Now I am not sure which version to get. Do I wait for CGi to finish it or get theirs now.
Looking it up, there entire batch seems to be 4.0 GB. I am not sure FLAC and extra disk space is worth it for this show. I guess I will just get it from them. They are a decent (enough) group.

  6. Bloodios writes:

Any particular reason why the second season doesn’t interest you? I’m simply curious.

  7. LMN writes:

“Due to bad video quality there will not be a 1080p”

Then why encode so that each 720p (!!) episode is bigger than a frickin GB? God…

  8. DmonHiro writes:

LMN, are you new here? Tenshi compensates by using insanely low CRF rates so as not to need to encode.

  9. goteki writes:

you should pick some shows where no other groups are doing the bds. and you’re not even interested in doing the 2nd season for sekirei…
i’d love to see the bds of, for example, requiem for the phantom. great show but no group seems interested…
anyway, i’m happy you’re releasing stuff and please continue 🙂

    Just wondering…

    Are there any censored scenes??

    Thanks!
Not that I am aware of

  11. zaotaku writes:

DmonHiro: Yes it’s annoying as hell! Follow coalgirls’ example or at least up that CRF to 18 or 17. Honestly lower than CRF 16 is a waste of space.

  12. OniSamurai writes:

@zaotaku: Man, if only another group like [polished] or someone would release BD’s for this as well so that way you have a choice which one to download.

    http://www.nyaatorrents.org/?page=torrentinfo&tid=142822

Christ, you’d think by the sound of all this bitching that CGi was forcing us to only download their releases or something.

  13. zero writes:

I’ll make a wager that polished version is nearly identical to this version at 1/3 the size

  14. zaotaku writes:

OniSamurai: since polished used AAC it’s almost as if they are forcing me to pick up me Tenshi’s release. I like the quality I just don’t think it’s justified with the extra size because a higher CRF will look almost the same.

  15. zaotaku writes:

@zero: Probably, they are using less than 1/3 of the size but that’s because they are using AAC. Also note that 1.2gb is what a you would normally see in a 1080p release.

  16. 1337 writes:

lols… you know that hard drives are really cheap these days..get a 2TB+ HDD just for animu and dont complain about the size.

  17. baka writes:

has anyone tried comparing this to polished? i’m interested in knowing which has better video quality. i don’t care about the audio. it’s in stereo anyway.

  18. ♦Tenshi♦ writes:

Ok I guess I will share some Tenshi encoding philosophy with everyone.
    .
    1) Regarding size, yes I know its bloated and oversize. Overkill is always better than underkill IMO as such my stuff is encoded accordingly. 200% size increase for 1% quality improvement is a perfectly acceptable price to pay IMO especially at these tiny file sizes. Maybe not at a 500gb movie but I have not been able to get my hands on a raw decrypted academy standard resolution movie yet. Angel Beats for example would be a 90gb series if I had my way but I am willing to compromise at CRF13.
    .
    2) I am encoding this stuff for my personal archives as well. As such, petty minor things like HDD space are at the bottom of my list of concerns. The percentage difference of HDD space used between the 4gb 720p series and my own assuming(1.4gb eps, 17gb total) when stored in my archive is .00065%. Soon to go down to .00039% as I expand my archive this winter. I just cant be bothered to care about such a small percentage difference.
    .
    3) For the people that don’t want to deal with the percentage conversions let me put it to you this way. Lets assume HDD space is 25 cents USD a GB. Its actually a lot cheaper normally but lets just say your me and need that nice fancy SAN. The difference between the encodes is basically a cup of coffee. Do you really care if you drink an extra cup of coffee in a day?
    .
TLDR version, complaining about filesize difference is as petty as complaining about drinking an extra cup of coffee during the day.

  20. zaotaku writes:

lol, I get you Tenshi. Even though I rant about your encodes I still download them as they are almost always the only with Flac. Though I do re-encode them and split the size in ½.

I wish people would stop assuming everybody is from the US! Not everybody can get a 2tb hdd (non green) @ $100 in a Fry’s or microcenter. I’m from Puerto Rico and got to pay about $130 from newegg plus shipping @ $30+. So lets say i buy 2 x 2tb HDDs for Raid1, that would be ~$300 instead of ~$200

Really don’t want to imagine what other people who aren’t fortunate enough that newegg ships to them pay for their stuff.

can’t you achieve the same results without “overkilling” your encodes?

  23. rds writes:

Well, looks like Tenshi is in agreement with Funi&Co.

    Look:

other people won’t do the BDs “because CG are doing them”, but the size of CG releases scares away many anime fans – as a result they go and buy shitty Funi&Co’s dvds – or so it is planned …

Probably that’s why CG (and some others) drop (or stall) many BD releases – release a couple of eps to discourage others “because CG/THORA are doing them” and then …

    😉

  24. ToyBox writes:

Though in this case it is the reverse, as Dmon and I both released Sekirei before CoalGirls. But yes, normally for someone like me who just muxes in other people’s works (from end to end) seeing someone like CoalGirls start a project completely stops me from picking something up.

Though it does not stop me from finishing something that gets dropped *cough*.

I’ll be grabbing these later. I am always looking at improving the picture quality of my anime.

  25. zero writes:

@rds first off buying the blu-ray/dvd of any show is what any anime fan should be doing to support the industry.

@zaotaku FLAC is retarded plain and simple. Nearly everyone with a brain converts it to AAC. 1.2 GB for a 1080p release wouldn’t have me posting….this is a 720p release chief.

Huge file size increase for minimal gain in quality is retarded. I have plenty of HDD space to fill but that isn’t the issue. We are talking about a 720p file being larger then most 1080p encodes that look perfect. The people complaining are the ones who actually understand how stupid this is. I get a laugh every time I come here to see how much bigger file sizes can get when I have the exact same quality for a fraction of the size.

  26. banger writes:

well i don’t think the problem is hard drive space or bandwidth – its distro. since the only distro is a public tracker where the majority of downloaders do not seed afterwards, it takes so long to download anything.

combine that with the fact that these days almost every single release has a v2 released later to improve the script or fix a problem, many times the file needs to be downloaded a second time.

  27. jay writes:

^not true bloated sizes on a bad BD are a waste of time .Plus its a shitty series and time could be spent on a better show

  28. hmmm writes:

whats the point doing first season and not doing second…

  29. Bloodios writes:

Anyone who isn’t happy with the size of the release can just walk away. It’s not like you have to download Tenshi’s release, there are other alternatives out there. What’s the point of dropping in and ranting on and on about how supposedly stupid this is? You’re trying to make Tenshi bends your way or something? You have to realize that this is how Tenshi chose to do things, it’s Tenshi’s personality, it’s in Tenshi’s blood, and whatever you do won’t change that, so save your breaths for better things.

  30. hmmm writes:

also, your releases are 90% overkill.
the problem is not with drive space, i have enough space, bur its simply waste of space. didnt you tried for example enc. one spisode in CRF 13, 15, 17, 18 and maybe even 19?
i doubt there will be much difference, between 17 and lower, if there even will be some.

quality release not means superior quality with insane size, but the best available quality regarding to acceptable file size.

  31. Bloodios writes:

Anyway, in regard to the visual aspect of the release. Do you consider cropping off the black border, Tenshi?
Noted will do for batch. Got overlooked this time, sorry.

  32. eehureum writes:

i have 9 tb and my hdds are getting full! when are they gonna sell cheap bd-r

do you guys just delete stuff you don’t care for anymore or just store harddrives/burn dvds or bds? either way is so tedious.

  33. proboi writes:

I only store really great stuff that i know i’ll rewatch. Oh…and my precious moe collection, i’ll never ever delete those <3

  34. DmonHiro writes:

Yeah, that’s BD. I gave 5 TB full of anime, and 4 TB of free space right now. I’m still not getting stupidly sized releases just because I have lots of free space. It’s like money, just because you’re rich doesn’t make you any less stupid for blowing your money on a gold plated toilet.

  35. OniSamurai writes:

Cause comparing HDD space to money makes perfect sense right? Money is used for almost everything, I highly doubt you are gonna use that HDD space for anything BUT Anime. I still don’t get why the most of you are complaining about what CGi is doing if there’s other options out there. If CGi was the only ones doing the BD’s then maybe I could see you complaining about downloading this free Anime, but otherwise you should probably stop being a bunch of little whiny ass bitches.

  36. Allie_K writes:

It’s just like with ABS for cars… once available people destory its purpose by driving more risky, negating its effect to savety.

Now we get HDD-Space for reasonable money, but the releases just grow to adapt, needed or not.

Let Tenshi have his oppinion and keep yours to yourself.
I for one decided not to download this, as it doesn’t reflect MY way of thinking, but I’m not saying that MY oppinion should matter or is the absolute one.

Back in the days we had a max of 170mb per episodes, whole 26 ep series taking like 4-6gb at max.

    Times change…

@zero: an extra 50-100mb for better audio quality doesn’t kill anybody (an extra 700mb to make the video look almost the same as other encoders, maybe…)and I was comparing how 1.2gb is normally seen in 1080p not 720p so people would get why the size of this release is plain stupid.

  43. Chareon writes:

Here is a good guide to follow before posting your comments regarding “this encode isn’t worth it” etc.

Do you know the difference between S-IPS and TN? Can you recognize it easily?

No? You aren’t qualified to decide if it’s worth it or not then.
Yes? Congrats, just remember everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and nobody is forcing you to download this.

Me? Bring on the monster file sizes. Don’t have TBs of space for nothing.

there’s not really a TB limit based on price, but there’s a limit of how many sata slots you have on your computer >__<.

I use the below with a bunch of 1TB drives:
    http://www.supermicro.com/products/chassis/4U/846/SC846E1-R900.cfm
Its not for everyone, but it does make it so I can afford to archive all my releases as well as all the BDMV sources that I used. I don’t believe in deleting useful data.

almost every time files in part-batches differ from final batch. >_<

  49. ♦Tenshi♦ writes:

Episodes 6-10 have the correct cropping.

  50. daikama writes:

Well, might as well add fuel to the fire :D.

@Chareon: Yep, in plane switching LCDs are the way to go, but if you don’t calibrate as well it doesn’t do you nearly as much good.

@zaotaku: CG uses CRF > 17 etc. CG Strike Witches release was CRF 15 (and just about the same size per EP). Yousei raws SW release, also 720p is again about the same file size (FWIW). I believe CG Spice & Wolf II was CRF 14, and while I’m too lazy to check, I’m sure there are other examples.

It’s a pain in the ass, but if you want FLAC so much, just DL the Polished release (or the raws he used), strip the AAC audio & mux in the FLAC. I’ve done it before, but it’s more like 150MB+ rather than 50 or 100MB (unless the AAC is at max quality settings or surround). Frankly, I can’t figure out why the audio quality is more important that the video quality.

JMO ;), but anything MORE than CRF 16 is a waste for a BD rip. It’s already being compressed a lot from the original.

@Zero: “FLAC is retarded plain and simple.” No…that statement is retarded. I don’t know where to start, but clipping, dynamic range, and the entire concept of lossy vs. lossless are probably worth considering.

“I get a laugh every time I come here to see how much bigger file sizes can get when I have the exact same quality for a fraction of the size.” LMAO at this – it’s IMPOSSIBLE for that to happen with a LOSSY format. If you have good hearing & equipment (musical training helps), you CAN tell the difference b/t 128kbs, 192kbs or even more vs. FLAC or .wav audio. FWIW, I’ve compared both, and there is a marked improvement over the over the Polished release which used either Leopard or Zero raws.

I don’t know what the complainers are DLing lately, but I recently DL’d Outsiders version of Dance in the Loli Bund and the second ep was 3.7GB. THAT is a big ass file, 1080p or not. It’s bigger than I want (esp. as the manga is much better), but if I don’t like it, then I can either do my own version or suck it up.

All those bitching about the file size – at least you have an alternative (ex. Polished release). That’s true for about any BD rip. 99% of the Zero or Leopard BD rips are CRF 18-20. DL the raws & mux in the subs your self. That’s a lot easier than trying to get a BDMW & encode if you want better quality.

THANKS Tenshi. Some of us appreciate the HQ release. Now if I can just convince you to do the second season…
