Thanks so much. I lost my DVD subbed version of Lain recently thanks to a faulty hard disk. 🙁 Now I can get to watch Lain in 1080p HD. Btw, what’s BDMV? I hope you can upload the extras (interviews and omake) with subs as well. It will be great to know what new up-to-date tidbits the creators talked about.
This girl still gives me shivers all over my body (no matter where you go, everyones connected) …
The quality is just AWESOME, better then any rip or the orig. dvd I have.
Now I want (again) a copland OS remake for my win7 again AND … I can hear that energie sound once again – took me some time and a good psychiatrist to get rid of it, damn ;P
Why didn’t episode 5 have the op and ed? It does on my computer. Did you DL the 720p instead of the 1080p or put it in a different folder than the 720p OP/ED? 1080p isn’t out yet.
ugh.. I’ve got no clue how to apply the patch =( Am I supposed to keep the original file name of episode 3? If so would someone be able to post the 1080p file name? And a little explanation?
xdelta is a binary differential program run from commandline. To use it, you’ll have to load up CMD or use a batch file (ex. one of the ones posted around here).
Using xdelta through commandline, you can specify a different file name for your input (i.e. calling it “Serial Experiments Lain – 03” or something) as well as your output.
Hi, during the japanese audio of the opening around the 0:47-0:48 mark you can hear a little skip that you don’t find in the english audio. Is there a way to fix that little skip?
Is anyone having issues playing ep1-720p? After 4 minutes or so it freezes and just stops playing. I’m currently using CCCP and have no idea whats going on.
1./ Standalone, cut-off Opening and Ending is unprofessional.
2./ FLAC audio is a waste of bandwidth and space. There is no point to have FLAC audio, ACC or MP3 would be the same quality, but 10 times smaller. You will not notice a difference in sound quality even on THX home cinema.
“1. Standalone, cut-off Opening and Ending is unprofessional.”
The problem with this is that it’s not cut off. It’s ordered chapters, meant to avoid splicing. If you actually had your playback configured correctly, it’d play OP/ED on every episode. But if you want “professional”, try buying the Blu-Ray. I, like all other fansubbers, am an amateur. That is, not doing this for money.
2. “FLAC audio is a waste of bandwidth and space. There is no point to have FLAC audio, ACC or MP3 would be the same quality, but 10 times smaller. You will not notice a difference in sound quality even on THX home cinema.”
You’re in the wrong place. This group’s existence is based on the points written on the about page. You can’t go into a fine diner and order a McDonald’s hamburger.
As for difference, people have passed double blind tests I’ve conducted and heard a difference.
As for size, FLAC is 76 MB/track. Most lossy encoders use 384 kbps AC3. That is 56 MB/track. There’s 2 tracks. So you complain about 40 MB out of ~1 GB of data? Seriously?
Besides, I’m pretty sure that somebody who cannot figure out how ordered chapters work is pretty incompetent to begin with and is in no position to talk.
Okay, so let me get this straight:
1) Someone posts an MU mirror of your release. You already posted a FS mirror in your original post. I’d like people to keep in mind that MU itself has pretty fast servers (I’ve only seen like 2 other services which rival their speeds. I can download from MU filling a 100Mbps line quite easily, this makes downloading complete series VERY FAST). FS on the other hand is shit slow for me, and to other people.
2) You delete that poster’s mirror for some reason. After checking with FS’ page, I find out they pay people for their uploads! So I’m guessing that since you deleted someone else’s useful contribution, YOU want to make money from your releases (this kind of goes contrary to what most fansubbers, rippers, … do).
If you want to make money so much, put up some ads, or a donation box. Don’t make it more annoying for people to get your stuff, just so you could get some 0.0001$ cents for their download. I don’t even care about it this time, as I got this release from a nice and fast bot (oh no… how about you stop posting torrents so people would leech only from FS, otherwise you’ll be pennyless…).
Sorry for being so angry about this, but this is the second time I’ve seen this kind of crap this week, and it’s very annoying: Don’t make it annoying for your leechers to get your stuff, it kind of defeats the purposes. There are better ways to get money than to subject your leechers to this.
@ huh
How about this:
I just stop to ‘waste’ my time on creating DDLs, so that we won’t make anymore money which we originally planned to spend on buying missing Blu-rays.
No official DDLs anymore and no encodes from series that haven’t been uploaded to Share = more spare-time for us. Sounds great, doesn’t it?
Oh, and we tried collecting donations, didn’t work very well.
tl;dr: Don’t like our DDLs? Figure out how to use torrents.
TayTay, ChrisK:
My complaint wasn’t really about criticizing you for making FS mirrors, it was about censoring those people that mirror to other providers, as that may be useful to some people.
Instead of not making official DDLs, I would suggest you say that it would benefit you (such as an alternative to donations) if people downloaded from *insert specific provider* (FS in this case), instead of *user-provided provider* or *alternative provider*. That way, people are given the choice of supporting you if they can, but they are not denied the choice of using a faster alternative if they want (which can be quite useful, especially when you’re talking about huge BD Rips. There is a difference between downloading FS at 128KB/s and MU at 8MB/s here.)
I don’t care how fast the DDLs are. They are mainly for people who can’t/don’t know how/don’t want to to use torrents. And since I put quite some time in those DDLs I don’t want to see my effort and the earnings go to waste because people run off to other people’s MU links (who are then earning “reward points” with *our* stuff). So I delete all MU links that are posted after it’s been made clear that there will be/are official DDLs.
And it’s not like we are milking our downloaders like other groups do by splitting each file at exactly 450 MB to generate as many downloads as possible. I even upload files that are above the filesize-limit in one piece to keep downloading convenient. (I only split files above 3GB so that people don’t have to download everything again if the download fails.)
ChrisK,
I doubt people don’t know how to use torrents. Anyone can use torrents, although some people might have issues using them, but that’s not really the point here. Let’s consider another question: Why do a lot of people prefer using XDCC bots as opposed to torrents? It’s usually for 2 reasons:
1) Bots can be much faster (dedicated servers)
2) The user has some reason they can’t use the torrent, would prefer an alternative (such as less bandwidth intensive, or being firewalled or whatever)
Now DDLs can be thought of as alternative to XDCC bots, which Coalgirls doesn’t provide (although, I did notice you used to have a bot in your channel, but the bot owner removed it because Coalgirls wasn’t bothering updating it).
> I don’t want to see my effort and the earnings go to waste because people run off to other people’s MU links
> So I delete all MU links that are posted after it’s been made clear that there will be/are official DDLs.
Why do people choose one provider over the other? Convenience. If FS is slow for someone, they’ll just use torrents, bots or whatever other choice that is better. Deleting someone’s MU links won’t make them go to your links. People will go to your links if they’re faster/more reliable/etc (and for some people, FS can be better, however not for everyone!).
Instead of censoring other people, you should just let people make their own choice consciously and depending on their needs.
Your argumentation is getting wired (anyone can use torrents, then some people can’t, but then everyone will just because they don’t like FS … huh?). So I will just stop arguing with you here and point you to the last sentence on our About-page instead.
ChrisK, I merely claimed there are reasons why someone would prefer something other than torrents (such as performance reasons). Choosing to use something else is different from not being able to use something.
your about page also says “We’d rather waste your bandwidth than our time”, so i guess you’d better make good on your proposal at 1:34 pm
if you need money, perhaps you should ask groups like commiesubs how they meet their donation targets (personally i suspect it has something to do with treating their leechers with a modicum of consideration)
Nope. It has to do with them doing shows when they air instead of Blu-Ray only.
04:53 everbody -> everybody
ou yea didnt noticed that before
but no need to be a nazi
Thank you Coalgirls for this release and thanks anon for the MU links, it’s always nice to see some 1080p MU links these days, instead of FS.
Wow this looks FANTASTIC, thank you so much!
Yea thanks for MU, seriously dont like failserve so keep up the good work! 🙂

fileserve is better for uploader so atleast you should download from there is not like you are paying anything
Chapters are ordered?
Don’t post DDLs if there are official ones.
Thanks for that – just awesome.

Best anime ever btw.
The ordered chapters of the 1080p episode 3 appear to be broken/wrong/whatever.

Yeah, the Segment UIDs are wrong for the OP and ED…
I made a patch for once. Use it.

Thanks for making a patched version of Ep.03 available via DDL. (My system (x86) finds that the xdelta3 file is incompatible).
Oh yeah, download this version of xdelta3 if you have 32 bit windows and rename it to xdelta3.exe.

Never thought about that, my bad.

Relies on the official patch binary data.
Thanks :9
For the encoder, in case she visits this.
What happened with the 60i Video sections?
Are the BDs telecined?
Nope. All episodes are 24000/1001 progressive.
Just to be sure, could you write the new CRC for the patched ep03?

OK, Lain REALLY needs a hug.
Why didn’t episode 5 have the op and ed?
It does on my computer. Did you DL the 720p instead of the 1080p or put it in a different folder than the 720p OP/ED? 1080p isn’t out yet.

xdelta is a binary differential program run from commandline. To use it, you’ll have to load up CMD or use a batch file (ex. one of the ones posted around here).
The original file name, I believe, is this:
[Coalgirls]_Serial_Experiments_Lain_03_(1520x1080_Blu-Ray_FLAC)_[580D6C98].mkv
And after successful patching:
[Coalgirls]_Serial_Experiments_Lain_03_(1520x1080_Blu-Ray_FLAC)_[03B81F3C].mkv
Using xdelta through commandline, you can specify a different file name for your input (i.e. calling it “Serial Experiments Lain – 03” or something) as well as your output.
I have question. Have these episodes also Opening and Ending or they are cut-off?
