    Sorry for the delay but you know how it goes with having a social life and full time job as well, almost no time to game in between. I’ll keep this brief since there is so much to respond to so I will just pick a few of your best comments.

    Actually yes i can tell the difference between different audio configurations since I have spent countless hours encoding/transcoding/demuxing my own BD to find my personal preference of audio/video quality to file size to play back on my Home Theater system.

    Obviously, but I dare you to find any major quality difference between Coalgirls and the original BD. What Coalgirls do to their videos is not just encoding, it’s damn near art.
    I am kind of curios as to what kind of TV? Is it a LED(LCD) or Plasma, 1080p or 720p? Deriving from your background I assume you have played with all the TV settings and not just selected the default natural/dynamic picture modes and haven’t touched it since.

    Attack? You basically insult the hard work that the Coalgirls do and then go on a rant on my so called “allienation” and call my response an attack? Wow you better stay away from Reddit, Twitter, youtube, and every other social media outlet if this happens every time someone responds to you in this manner.
    On a side note, even if HDD’s are priced at double as to what i pay here in Canada. Wouldn’t the simple re-useability and access you have with a HDD far outweigh the physical displacement and cumbersomeness of DVD’s? Since you live such a comfortable life style.

    from what i understand localized just means “westernized” and unlocalized just means “kept as japanese as possible,” ie. “-chan,-san,-sama,-kun,etc.” are tacked on. it could also extend to metric to US standards in some cases. i could be wrong, but if it’s really killing you to find out, just google it.
    as for which one is UTW and which one is R1, coalgirl gives it in the description.
    as for what was actually changed: heck if i know/care.

    Wow, this movie just summed up what happened to me in the last week. I woke up in a wierd room, and can’t remember what happened in the last month. Then my friends all started to ignore me, and they all hinted that I did something really horrible, yet they won’t tell me because I’m too stupid to ask. I figured I probably peed in the pool or something. Anyway, it turns out that this room was actually a giant flying spaceship. Then a giant robot broke through and carried me away to my some wierd building where some guy likes to play piano. Strangely enough, he set off my gaydar, yet I didn’t think anything was amiss. He was then able to breathe in my toxic fart without dying, wow…that would’ve killed a normal human in an instantly.

    With all that being said, I finally asked myself the question, summing up everything that just happened: How can I be a better piano player?

    I also felt the same way about 3.33. It was indeed a waste of time watching it. They lied about the fan-service from 2.22 preview. It actually didn’t even follow up with the preview from 2.22. It’s like we’re watching something completely different.

    My only thoughts: Movie was basically a long entertaining explanation. It was an info dump on why everything is different suddenly, and then proceeds to escalate until, no spoilers but we’re kinda back at the start. That said, I enjoyed it. I was confused as all hell at the start though.

UTW seems to have only released the first episode on BD and it’s already up to Vol.6 (I think), so a lot of people are anxious to get it on BD ;D Truly an amazing show and the screenshot comparisons from TV to BD are awesome (they really went back and fixed a ton of stuff that was wrong from the TV broadcast). I’d definitely welcome a release from you guys on it since you always do such top-quality BD releases!

    The audio is in 6.1, VLC and mplayer do not handle this correctly.
    Read the last 200 comments or the FAQ to get your codecs in order.

    truth be told I watched the video and had no idea what was going on so I just skipped anything to do with that. download LAV filters run all of the install_ .bat files as an administrator, then install the k-lite pack, which will also install Media player classic. For me everything was selected to use the LAV filters by default, and at one point it asked me to choose what audio format to output by default. My comp only goes up to 5.1, which I have hooked up to a set of astro A40’s, so I can only assume that it puts out the 5.1 correctly I cant listen for each individual speaker. So I chose 5.1, at some point I also told it not to change any file associations. Then I just finished the install, popped in the video and it played like magic.

    I use VLC for eveything else but after spending all day on this I have resigned myself to using MPC for these videos.

    For my fellow Linux users: I wasn’t able to solve the 6.1 sound problem in VLC, but you can pass the following options to MPlayer:

    -channels 7 -af pan=2:1:0:0:1:1:1:1:1:1:1:1:0:0:1

    Alternatively, you can use the frontend SMPlayer and under Preferences > Advanced > Options for Mplayer just copy “-channels 7” and “pan=2:1:0:0:1:1:1:1:1:1:1:1:0:0:1” into the first and third field, respectively.

    One stupid question: Is it a remake of Neon Genesis Evangelion( http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=view&tid=201508 ), sequel, side or new story? And do you plan to do the series?
    One friendly advice to everyone – DL 1080p version even if your monitor is HD. 720p looks somehow really bad when it comes to a red color, while 1080p doesn’t have such problem

    Your 1.11 looks much better and preserves more details than THORA’s old 8bit version. Will be replacing THORA with yours.
    But your 2.22 looks almost the same if not worse than UTW-THORA’s 8bit version… Why is that? Especially, in dark areas… the line art get all blocky with that noise. Redo it. Seriously. I want a 10bit 2.22. A good one.
    Haven’t really looked at your 3.33, but maybe I will be a show my THORA fanboyism here and stay with their release.

      1.11, 2.22, and 3.33 all require different types of encodes.
      1.11 mainly deals with lighter scenes. It does not have much need for debanding, and most of the bitrate goes to preservation.
      2.22 is a darker movie in general. It has a lot more banding, which needs to be covered with dithering.
      3.33 is a very clear beautiful movie, but different AR and resolution.

      I’m not redoing 2.22 because you find it to be slightly worse or equal to Thora’s. I’m not doing this for a competition – I’m doing it because I want to.

    Hello, first off I want to apologize for asking this since so many other people have asked it and seemed to have fixed this somehow, but I am new to this and I’m not to the most technologically savvy. Is there a simple or, at least, a confirmed way to fix the background sound but no voices audio problem for 1.11/2.22? I read though the FAQ and comments carefully but I guess I’m just not understanding what I have to do. I just download VLC today and I’m using a Mac. If anyone could help me out I’d greatly appreciate it.

    May I ask if there is any way to convert 6.1 FLAC into 7 mono WAV files? The problem is that 6.1 surround is throwing off channel order on VLC and many hardware players. I’m assuming this 6.1 FLAC comes from DTS-ES 6.1, which already has rear center matrix encoded in rear left and rear right. In that case I want to remove rear center to change it into 5.1 FLAC.

    I suppose I can also get a hold on US release of Evangelion, which appearetnly uses DD TrueHD 5.1, saves me the trouble of dealing with 6.1.

    Me again. Correction, US release also uses 6.1 in Dolby TrueHD. Anyway, I solved the problem about hardware player by re-encoding audio using FLAC 1.3.0, which has the fix on 6.1 and 7.1 channel mapping (Coalgirl is using FLAC 1.2.1).

    It still doesn’t solve the problem on VLC though. VLC keeps saying channel mapping is ERROR.

    For those having trouble with the audio (voices very low/absent) just download Media Player Classic, go to the Play tab, Filters, MPC Audio Decoder and click on “Downmix”.
