UTW never did Evangelion 1.11, so the sub track infos probably are for movie 2. the subs for movie 1 are retail i think.
and i guess by “unamericanized” they mean all the “-kun”s etc are added after words, as opposed to “americanized” where the “-kun”s etc are removed
double-post: i guess the commas in the brackets indicate movie 1 subs and movie 2 subs
(R1, UTW) -> R1 – 1.11 – UTW – 2.22
@coalgirls: you could write that in a more clear and understandable manner 😛
Yeah, I’ve been trying to figure out how exactly to do this in a manner that makes it clear as to who did what. Giving proper subtitle credits is and always has been priority #1 for me, so don’t worry, I’m thinking about it.
I seem to remember there being an issue with audio channels being in the wrong positions on 1.11 in the previous release, did that get fixed this time?
Here are a few Asuka great pics:

I’m really looking forward to your next couple releases!
And you’ll post Evangelion 3.33? 😀
:O ….*mind blow*
I have never seen this or heard of it, Ive only watched the old evangelion.
Thank you so much!

Any ETA on 3.33?
Just for everyone who has the problem with no audio track playing in MPC-HC, I finally fixed this shit, first what you have to do is:
-go to options, and external filters
-use LAV audio decoder, disable your current FLAC filter (madFlac/ anything else)
-in external filters double click LAV audio decoder, config. menu should pop up
– then go to the mixing tab, and enable mixing change the output speaker configuration to 6.1
-make sure to apply all settings
-it should work fine now
oh also make sure that in the LAV audio config. menu that under formats FLAC is selected
pls do evangelion 3.33 i think the bd has already been released
whats with the inconstistency between eva 3.33 and the first 2 movies ?
3.33 has 2.35:1 screen ratio and 5.1 sound, but the first 2 got the usual 1.85:1 screen ratio and 6.1 sound
Ask Japan.
I’m just wondering if I’m going to have to cancel my Evangelion 3.33 party on friday night. You are the only subbing group that shows the potential to have the subs completed by then, but I’m not sure if you will release it by then. I’ve already talked to everyone about using the camrip subs, and they would rather wait than use the camrip subs.
Thank you for your work, I appreciate it very much.
2.35:1 !?!?
That means the image was “extended” or were the top/down parts cropped? =(
Eva 3.33: Video – 1920×816, 1280×544? What is Gainax thinking…
@DainL
UTW should have 1080p done by tomorrow 😮 I think 720 a day later
@sai
I know, UTW is my backup plan. I just like the Coalgirls releases so much better.
For those unable to comprehend dates – You can expect my release to be Saturday, May 4th.
@John
Comparing the BD footage to the preview of the first 7 minutes on YouTube, I’m positive that the original elements of the film were produced in 2.35:1 format; nothing was cropped for the blu-ray, and the picture is not stretched.
I think it works great, and I can only imagine how much more awesome it must have made seeing it in Japanese theaters. Frankly, I wish more animated movies were filmed in this aspect ratio. It allows for much more strikingly staged images, and it would help to set them apart from TV anime.
@icomeanon4
Thanks a lot! Had someone told me a week ago that 3.33 was in that ratio, I wouldn’t have believed a single word O.o It’s gonna be AWESOME.
I’ve a Mac OSX user, and I’ve never had audio issues with any coalgirls releases, until these two Eva’s. In VLC I only hear background noise, and in mplayer2 dialogue only plays from the left speaker/headphone. Anyone else have similar issues?
@Paul: the 6.1 channel mapping used in Coalgirls’ release of 1.11 and 2.22 is nonstandard (or at least both mplayer and VLC get it wrong).
After a few experiments, I guess that the FLAC 7-channel mapping they’ve used is probably
1: front left
2: front right
3: center
4: sub
5: rear left
6: rear right
7: rear center
If you’re using mplayer, adding ‘-channels 7 -af pan=2:1:0:0:1:0.5:0.5:1:1:0.5:0:0:0.5:0.25:0.25’ should work. These values work fine for my 2.0 headphone setup on Linux, but they might be a little bass heavy for someone else. Oh, and the documentation on -af pan is horrbile, I know.
@the_architect Thank you so much that completely fixed it!
So I’m confused… is the linked version of 2.22 the updated re-encode? I was wondering this last Saturday, but I figured I’d wait until today to see if there was a repost. The file name only indicates “v3” and nothing about 10-bit, so I’m not sure what’s what. I know there’s still time left in the day for an update, but I plan on watching all three films tonight so I’d just like some clarification.
Thanks for all the hard work, and looking forward to future releases!
So… I would wait all day to post the comment, and then the update comes right after… >_>
Ignore my previous post. I would delete it if there was an option.
Thanks again.
Thanks very much Ms. Coalgirls, sir.
I wish 3.33 was normal aspect ratio though, now 3.33 will look smaller on my TV.
(I don’t know if this one’s been posted already)

Hi,
Yesterday I started to downloading Evangelion: 2.22 – You Can (Not) Advance.
The file was [Coalgirls]_Evangelion_2.22_You_Can_(Not)_Advance_v3_(1920x1080_Blu-Ray_FLAC)_[9DB7F26B].mkv, then today I saw Evangelion 2.22 torrent on tokyotosho thinking it the same thing but when I clicked on it the file CRC is different [Coalgirls]_Evangelion_2.22_You_Can_(Not)_Advance_(1920x1080_Blu-ray_FLAC)_[9DD567FB].mkv.
So which on is correct?
[Coalgirls]_Evangelion_2.22_You_Can_(Not)_Advance_v3_(1920x1080_Blu-Ray_FLAC)_[9DB7F26B].mkv
or
[Coalgirls]_Evangelion_2.22_You_Can_(Not)_Advance_(1920x1080_Blu-ray_FLAC)_[9DD567FB].mkv?
Probably the one that is linked on our site …
[Coalgirls]_Evangelion_2.22_You_Can_(Not)_Advance_(1920x1080_Blu-ray_FLAC)_[9DD567FB].mkv <— 10bit version (a.k.a the new one/encode).
Thank.
Why did the old torrent was linked to this page yesterday?
Luckily, I only downloaded 2 gb of the old one.
Thabk you Coalgirls!! I’m always looking after you all the time and this is just awesome. Again, thank you. I appreciate all the work you do for us.
shouldn’t the banner say
“COAL’S IN HER HEAVEN ALL’S RIGHT WITH THE WORLD”
?
seed 2.22 720p please, download is at 40%, and download speed is 0kb/s
Thank you coalgirl

@mtm
That’s a good thing. Says to me Coalgirls aren’t exalting themselves with blind ego as some godless morons do.
Thanks for the new 2.22!
3.33 releasing?
Oh wait so the 2.22 I downloaded the preview week was not the new release? Hahaha got trolled!
Thanks for the effort, can’t wait for the 3.33 release!

Ok i originally had the 2.0.5 version of VLC when i first tried to play the file and I had voice audio in my right ear but now after i upgraded i have no voice audio at all. At the very beginning of 2.22 the english audio works fine but then i get no audio for japanese. I’m really hoping somebody can help me please. Any help is appreciated.
Hmm, seems like 2.22 is a bit undercropped – there’s some small damage on the left side of the image throughout the encodes. It’s in both the 720p and 1080p.
Images related:
Screenshot 1
Screenshot 2
Love the encodes, though – especially 1.11 is miles ahead of the releases thus far.
There’s a missing “be” in 2.22 at 00:52:38 – 00:52:42
I just was curious if Coalgirls is going to add the Ghibli short movie prior to Eva 3.33?
I’m reading around that UTW-Thora didn’t include it and I can’t confirm myself since it’s still downloading.
Just wanted to know if it’s gonna be cut out or left in?
@Problems with voice audio playback on VLC 2.0.6
Sorry I don’t think VLC is a good player for anime stuff.
Read this sites Playback page http://coalgirls.wakku.to/faq/playback
Thanks so much for all your quality releases, chiefly for you work on the monogatari series and the EVA movies. These are my top pics. Enjoy y’all. 🙂

God, all versions of the 2.22 are just over 10gb
>crf 13
I hate this new CRF and FLAC/DTS tendency for subbers and encoders groups. Here in the third world HDs doesn´t grown in trees and ULTRA-SUBERB high-end professional grade Home theaters and acoustic treatment in both floors, ceillings and wall aren´t exactly “common” to justify a lossless FLAC audio. (not to metion 99% of ppl can´t actually abx a DD 640kbs to a Flac so at a BD reencode with limited bitrate over the internet those extra 500mb of audio should be going to video, not to a imperceptible pointless audio quality). If i want the MAXIMUM POSSIBLE audio quality (and video too in first place actually), i’ll buy the proper BD.
I miss proper encode groups that would actually think on quality vs size benefits OVER THE INTERNET and actually do a 2pass limiting the size to fit inside a DVD9. 7.9gb with DD is much more pratical and has virtually the same quality than a 10.5gb FLAC version.
Thank you anyway for the time and effort of encoding this anw, i’ll be reencoding the audio myself here and my own encode of the movie when i get the chance to buy a BD copy around here.
@Sephi
So was that all just to rant about something only you could possibly care about?
Why would you even bother looking at Coalgirls if you have such “concerns” about quality to size ratios? What is the point of watching such a top notch anime in anything but BD quality?
I’m sorry to hear that you live in such a shitty 3rd world country that you can’t afford basic internet or a half decent audio/video setup, but i have nothing against your 800×600 CRT monitor and brick of a tower.
Also who burns HD anything to a DVD? That is just dumb considering HDD’s are on par if not cheaper than DVD’s per GB.
Just leave and go back to Yify, or Horrible Subs.
P.S. Even better if you follow the wise words of Anakata and “go sodomize yourself with a retractable baton.”
@Allan Petabyte~ how dare you… yify is awesome.
> such a shitty 3rd world country that you can’t afford basic internet
Actually i live in the 5th richest country in the world, and even tough i have a confortable life here but our internet is the second shittiest in the world and have limited bandwidth even at the top contracts.
>only you could possibly care about?
Actually i represent the condition of probably more than 2/3 of non-japaneses anime fans, you guys that live in countries that have such cheap and top quality services while exploring the rest of the world are a minority. Get off of your coocon for once, stop being alienated and learn about the whole world for once.
>What is the point of watching such a top notch anime in anything but BD quality?
You are on a contradition here. A transcode of less than 30% of a BD original size isn´t BD quality. IF you believe in what you say what are you doing in Coalgirls downloading anime and not buying BDs instead?
Like i said, when the BD come out here i’ll buy them and watch in mine 55″ HDTV television. While i can´t do that, i’ll have a copy in my hd for convenience.
>Also who burns HD anything to a DVD? That is just dumb considering HDD’s are on par if not cheaper than DVD’s per GB.
Like i said, an alienated dumbass like you who doesn´t know shit how world works outside your own confortable parasite neighborhood wouldn´t know that most coutries outside EU os US have abusive importation taxes (around 80% here) making hds that are only manufactured in asia extremely expensive compared to DVD media that are manufactered locally without taxes since are simplier technology.
>can’t afford a half decent audio/video setup,
I dare you to actually ABX Flac vs DD in a Half decent audio setup, or even a semi-pro one before you spit such ignorant alienated bullshit again. I suppose you don´t even know what ABX is since you really seen to believe FLAC is actually a good alternative to any other format over the internet.
Why being such an ignorant ass with someone else criticism that doesn´t even concern you? I wasn´t even particularly rude on my comentary. You must be a 19yo kid, they are arrogant prejudice brats like this no matter where.
Peace.
Someone here needs to read our about page.
If you care about filesize, there’s always the 720p version. Otherwise, you’re coming to the wrong group to complain. It is not our goal to please people who want smaller filesizes/lossy audio/bitstarved video.
TL;DR
You need some anti-troll spray or something?
We’ve got a really nice one here.
=> Shephi :
– There is no need to talk like that to people who have a different opinion than you, you can express your disagreements politely like everyone else is doing here.
– If you’re that focused on size, UTW released a 480p a few days ago.
– Since you’re that focused on precision : the 5th richest country in the world (GPD wise) is either France or UK (they keep fighting over it) and they are BOTH in EU. And they both have pretty decent HD price, much better than DVD.
You’ve got here people who are spending their time to release ultra high-quality subtitled anime, and I thank them for that. If you aren’t happy with it, then what the hell are you doing here, trolling people?
@Dragon
>can express your disagreements politely like everyone else is doing here.
My first postage was politely enough, second one i just spoke in the same level of the guy that first attacked me. I’m terrible sorry if i offended anyone else.
>If you’re that focused on size, UTW released a 480p a few days ago.
>480p
That’s a bad joke, sir.
>The 5th richest country in the world (GPD wise) is either France or UK.
I don´t know your sources but UK has just fallen to 8 or 9, depending of the ranking. I meant to say 6th (i made a typo with the 5). But my country also oscilates betwen 6th and 7th lately. This doesn´t mean much of course because or IDH is very bad compared to the Gross GDP. (at least not as bad as China or India). I’m just lucky myself to be in the upper part of the piramid here. Still, hd’s and mostly our bad internet still weights on my pockets and as i said, on most ocidental-based anime fans that download english releases too. EU and US are MINORITIES. Even tough this is a english release.
> If you aren’t happy with it, then what the hell are you doing here, trolling people?
Trolling? C’mon: Different opinion than yours = troll? Can´t we have discident views and opinions anymore? I just tough it was worthy to try and express a different perspective on video transcoding and bring a little about the reality outside your confy neighboards about bandwidht, hds price and ACTUAL PLACEBO vs PERCEPTUAL TRANSPARENCY REGARDING LOSSLESS VS LOSSY AUDIO COMPRESSION (I’m knowledge about the issue since i used to work with video around here before switching to software programing.)
I wasn´t going to extend this flame/spam on coalgirls’s website anymore but i just returned here to comment that, while i was remuxing their release to ditch the FLAC audio and save space anyway, i noticed that there were TWO FLAC TRACKS summing up to a whopping 3.75gb of just audio data with made the video stream be just about the right size to fit inside a DVD9 even together with a 450~kbps audio stream. How lucky can i get, huh? To anyone interested: All you gotta do is use mkvextract -h and reencode the FLAC using eac3to to either AC3 or AAC multichannel depending of you own preference. If anyone want’s an explanation on how to do such procedure i can explain via email.
I won´t be bothering you guys anymore, goodbye and Peace.
>EU and US are MINORITIES
Cool story.
Damn, so many spell mistakes, that’s what i get for typing in a language i’m not completely confortable with, without checking at least once.
