Thanks for taking the time to redo this again.

And it looks like people are getting stuck at 99% on both torrents.

Yeah. It’s a seedbox error we knew would happen. It’ll be completed in a little bit, after tenshi gets to campus

R1 video? Why would you ever do that?

  5. deadman80 writes:

Zelnick: Perhaps because it is readily available now for less than 1/2 the cost of importing a copy from Japan? Perhaps because said availability means there is a much higher chance of someone involved with the encoding process here actually having the genuine article in their possession from which our beloved fansubs can be ripped from versus using a file made by someone else on the far side of a large ocean who may or may not get arrested for uploading it to satisfy our insatiable appetites for products which we complain about not having legal/commercial access to and then refuse to pay for the product out of a sense of self-entitlement and since we can tell ourselves that the no-cost-to-the-viewer fansub copies we have are just as good, if not better? >_>

I miss the days when the commercial released dubs sounded as bad as fandubs and all we had access to were VHS tapes with subs in that ugly yellow font which were put on by an actual fan who happened to have access to video editing equipment. The viewers whined a whole lot less, it was far more exciting to get your hands on something new to watch, there was more love than hate for those who actually did the subbing, and did I mention that the viewers whined a whole lot less?

TL;DR: Probably because it’s cheaper + easier to get their hands on an R1 copy (physical or otherwise). Also, as far as I know, there is nothing in the international standards for DVD/BD region restrictions that make R2 discs inherently better than R1. So quitcherbitchinkthx. ^^

Coalgirls: Ignore all of the greedy, angry, know-it-all peons and continue to hold pride in the quality of your work. I personally guarantee you that a small error in the audio synchronization in this file will not cause the end of the world as we know it.
Thank you for all of your hard work.

(I doubt that I would have ever realized there was any kind of problem without reading about it since I don’t like the spoken English language anymore :3 It frequently makes me feel as if I am becoming less intelligent when ever I hear it spoken these days. I believe this is a sign that I am getting old enough to soon be grumbling about “stupid kids” and I’m not sure I remember why I started typing this comment <,<)

  6. coalgirl writes:

Actually, I used R1 because it didn’t have hardsubbed Japanese text in the English segments. I had access to both R2 and R1. And honestly, they’re the same source quality anyways. R1 is just a little brightr.

  7. Zelnick writes:

deadman80, I appreciate the work this group does as much as most others (especially for their release of Cardcaptor Sakura). There is no need to get excited over my critique.

Most of the time domestic releases have better video quality than licensed alternative versions released in other nations. Also, licensing groups are known for sacrificing quality for quantity of episodes or features on a disc. This is a film on a single disc so it probably won’t be as bad as usual. When I finish downloading this version three, I will judge the video quality.

I hope Coalgirls keeps non-domestic video usage to a minimum for future releases.

There’s a big difference in the size of the files from v2 to v3. Was there a major reason for this?

  9. Snorfes writes:

    Hello,

can someone please tell me where the differences between Evangelion 1.11, 2.22, 3.33 are and where I should start to watch?
I hope that this wasn’t asked before

    Thx Snorfes

  10. anon writes:

There is no 3.33, they’ve been keeping their mouths shut rather nicely on when Q is coming out.

If you’ve seen the original show, then just 1 and 2. If not, I’d suggest you go and do that, along with EoE, before getting into Rebuild, though you can go through the movies fine without watching any of the earlier stuff.

  11. btocb writes:

why 6GB? it shouldn’t be 14GB? or something like that?

  13. coalgirl writes:

When I encoded it originally, it was 14 GB, crf 14. I used better settings – More refs, higher subme, etc – resulting in better compression.

  14. name5 writes:

ahhh but it looks like crap blocking and bending all the way
    not just dark sceens

you should go with crf 14 and more refs

  15. godai writes:

think it’s funny how much people complain about things they get for free. Coalgirls and all the other fansub groups out there sacrifice their leisure time in order to share their love of anime with us, and still people complain: “the file sizes are too big”, “why did you use their subs?”. Seriously, learn some fucking gratitude. You’re being provided with your favorite shows, translated and with HD video and audio, now get this…FOR FREE! Some people don’t know how good they have it. Let’s go back to the days of dial-up when fan groups were distributing shows on VHS and charging for shipping and handling and cost of the tape. Let’s go back to the late 80’s when the American anime scene consisted mainly of people watching unsubbed anime on vhs tapes in the back rooms of comic book and sci fi conventions. Instead of complaining, maybe people should be asking what they can do to contribute.

Anyhow, I just want to thank Coalgirls and all fansubbers for all their hard work. Thanks for sharing your passion with us.

I’ve just read that there is no filter that can render 6.1 flac properly with its own default settings. Did anyone test this release for audio issues?

      1. The Fluff is a good encoder. He is not a God.
      2. He has hated me for ages, so his word against me is to be expected.
      3. If it doesn’t, you can render 6.1 down to 5.1 or 2.0 or whatever you want.
      4. In the future they will have 6.1 FLAC rendering capability.

  17. Sayer writes:

^That’s the main reason why I don’t mind DLing FLAC, sooner or later it’ll be quite mainstream, as goes with everything that might seem absurd at times.

    Anyway, thanks for the release!

  18. btocb writes:

    ok, thks for this version.

  19. rashkae writes:

So, um, am I the first to notice that the audio channels are mapped a little… differently, than usual to the flac 5.1? Seems like the center channel got put in one of the left, or something similar.

  20. rashkae writes:

Ah, I see, the last comment right before mine…,, heh, oh well, yeah, it’s fscked.

  21. Paul-Kun writes:

So… why the sudden change of size, it goes from 14.05GB to 6.69GB, is it because it has a diferent type of encoding?, you didn’t want to upload 14 GB again?, Does it have less bitrate?, Or is it just worse?

  22. Paul-Kun writes:

So… I was reading, and well, sorry for the mistake, i havent’t seen the “Older comments” and well mmm, I’m still unsure about the file size, I’d prefer a file size of 14gb instead of 6gb but well what can I do… So thanks anyway and Downloading xD

“You did (not) credit our group, NERV or EvaGeeks, properly for your subs.

And seeing how big of fags you are, I’m glad I didn’t.”

Technically, you still are. The “Wiki” subtitles are an early version taken from our EvaGeeks Wiki page (http://wiki.evageeks.org/Evangelion_2.0_%28Translation%29). It even still has my burnt-red Formal436BT styling that was used for the camsub.

    • coalgirl writes:

I know (and knew) what you were referring to with that comment. And it was a mistake to not credit the original group but the editor, as I didn’t know who the original group was. But I am now glad that I didn’t credit the right group.

  26. Magellan writes:

Why would you use FLAC 6.1? That’s retarded. Nobody has a 6.1 surround sound setup.

  27. AlexTo writes:

If the source is 6.1 then I can understand after all is your policy to follow the original as close as possible. Now what I can’t not understand why would they release the audio on 6.1? It’s extremely unusual (you don’t have center channel that is usually the best for voice audio) if they wanted to go beyond 5.1 they should have jumped to 7.1 instead.

  28. Sangria writes:

Yeah, neither audio track is working for me at all with the 720p. :<

  29. chris writes:

Thank you for the release, great quality with reasonable subtitles 🙂 audio is fine also, as are subtitle tracks and quality I think is excellent of this release overall 🙂

is it just me? i am using VLC and Eng Dub audio.

  35. AndrewGSM writes:

Theres problems with the audio of 1080, the backround sounds more than the prime in some points. In others it seems like theres backround noise. Please fix :C

  36. tooslowbeech writes:

any way I can make the voice play? I hear the background sounds crystal clear but none of their voices. It’s like this on both 1.11 and 2.22, anything I can do to fix it?

  37. somabva writes:

If you’re having trouble with missing voices because of the 6.1 audio (and the inability of most decoders to handle it properly): in MPC home cinema, use the custom channel mapper in the options menu to disable the 7th audio channel (probably “front left of center”). That fixed the missing center channel problem for me.

  38. MW writes:

Hi and thanks coalgirl(s) for your nice releases. I got your Eva 2.22 encode, which was good, but I found it to be slightly below par.
Usually, I wouldn’t complain and just find another encode, so I did that. Got the Thora release, but they of course use the JP BD, which has those giant-sized hardcoded JP subs, which I really don’t like.

Then I tried like 5 other 1080p encodes, partialy downloading them to test, and they all share the same source. Last resort right now, I’m getting the CherryBoyz release, but that’s going super slow (also it looks like they do some kind of processing on their encodes that alters the picture?).

Which leads me back here. I wonder if it would be possible at some time to reencode these? Perhaps in 10-bit? The main thing I noticed was right at the start when it fades out of black to Mari in the helmet. If you look closely enough, you can see banding (especially) on the red part of the helmet, and as it fades in the banding ‘moves’, there is also a subtle amount of mosquito noise and ringing going on. Just thought I’d ask.

  39. SharkBear writes:

Oh man thanks for re-encoding these. I’m super excited for 3.33. Having it shipped here day 1. Can’t wait to see the end result of it. And of course here is some Asuka. (bestgirl)
