Quick head’s up, but we’re also including batch fixes with our release once we get around to it. May wanna make sure to update the subs before the full batch 👍

Thanks for the heads up. I will update if your batch fixes are available by next BD release.

    Yuck.
You used to include good subs in your release. Even Funi would be better.

  3. anon69 writes:

    >GJM-Kaleido
Yeah I don’t know about using the westernized woke fansubs is a good idea.

  4. Michael writes:

Yep, I agree about GJM-Kaleido. I trusted your releases mostly because of subs that you used or how you edited them (Cardcaptor Sakura for example).
    This one is hard pass.

  5. Mxxs writes:

Could you guys please explain wtf are you talking about? GJM staff have always been faggots* but never noticed any woke stuff in their releases. Someone recommended this series to me but didn’t mention any specific release, so what’s the issue with these ones? It really caught my attention seeing someone saying Funi would be preferable.

*Specially LightArrowsEXE of whom I’d stop saying this if he stopped stalling stuff.

In this thread: People who don’t know what a decent translation actually looks like so they make up their own fiction. There’s nothing in this release that warrants any criticism.

Not liking something’s fine, but at least get your shit right. Pick a better target than the Majo subs that are the same style writing-wise as any other fansub you’d watch. The only difference is they’re confirmed to be incredibly accurate.

  7. anon69 writes:

@Fyurie Go back to Nyaa; Twitter and stay there.

    I’m good, thanks.

  9. V writes:

@fyurie lmao ya im sure theres nothing warrants any criticism, like your group edited out the line sucking milfs tits on kuma kuma kuma bear’s ep 2. tell me what so offence about it?

  10. Fyurie writes:

For starters, nothing was “edited out”, it was an original translation.

The line Funi came up with for their translation made no sense contextually nor matched the tone of the scene as a whole. There is literally nothing in the Japanese that directly translated into anything directly related to any of those words you’ve used here.

We made a different choice to them, it’s that simple. That happens in the world of creative works translation.

Again, you don’t seem to understand how translation works, at least on a mechanical level, and especially without the requisite knowledge of the JP source text/audio, you can’t make statements as to who has what wrong or right.

    Fyurie pls.
There’s no such thing like “decent translation standard”. You decided to go with full retard mode (aka full adaptation) and it’s okay, but stop trying to force your liking on other people. For me something like this is retarded. I learned English just because translations in my country were always retarded. Even more than commie or your subs.

  15. Muramasa writes:

“People who don’t know what a decent translation actually looks like so they make up their own fiction”
    What?
Your subs: Let’s cut of the honorifics, use western name order, edit and replace all cultural references, alter the dialogue when common untranslatable words like moe, chunni, tsundere etc are used.
It will (somehow) make the subs more accurate. AND THINK ABOUT NEWCOMERS!@!!!#!@ REEEEEEEEEEEEEE

No, stfu. I’d take Doki/SS-Eclipse/Menclave/Mazui/Nii-sama or even CR subs over your ANY TIME. I don’t know any other group of people (excluding political movements, these progressive ones especially) that is THIS toxic. And for some reason it was always like this. “Pro-localization” pleb was always accusing everyone that liked different style. And as someone above said – there’s no such thing like one “good translation” standard. Stop acting like you had a monopoly on “good translation.” This is why I hate people like you.

The funniest thing is that EVEN official manga publisers in US (country with biggest amount of culturophobes) understands why cutting off and altering the culture is bad (okay, most of them, excluding Viz).

Ok, now go stroke you ego on twitter or nyaa and cry more about “how people don’t understand that altering and culture washout is good.”
Please don’t even try defending… for example cutting off “Senpai” from Uzaki-chan.

And tell me more about “making up your own fiction”.

  16. Fyurie writes:

I’m enjoying the implication that it’s ever been said that doing those particular things makes for an objectively better translation. It simply makes for a different one.

The reason I say you don’t know how translation works is because people like you think that doing something different than the thing you like (like replacing honorifics or various actually-translatable “weeb culture” words) makes a translation bad.

We have a few honorifics-included releases at GJM ourselves. The reason we don’t do them more often is because the staff on most projects have their (non-honorifics) preferences.

Our subs are incredibly accurate, with or without those things you like. You can hate those choices, but calling the subs “shit” or “wrong” because of them is immensely disingenuous.

Oh, and please don’t possibly compare actual culture erasure in the world at large to the minor changes made to entertainment translations, that’s embarrassing and offensive to the REAL issues relating to that practice.

  17. Ayanami writes:

I get you, you have your preferences. That’s fine. But bashing other because they have other preferences is retarded. And you with your friends are doing it pretty often. Either on nyaa or anidb. Probably somewhere else too, I simply don’t follow other sites.

“Oh, and please don’t possibly compare actual culture erasure in the world at large to the minor changes made to entertainment translations, that’s embarrassing and offensive to the REAL issues relating to that practice.”
This is just laughable. So what? Is something is classified as “entertainment” it can’t be translated without retarded changes?

Sorry friend this one gets a hard pass for me.

Also, here’s some facts: Nyaa.si where GJM, and Kaleido-subs etc freelance english translators and Herkz hang out is a shithole, pure and simple. It provided nothing of value and no one actually in the anime community liked/respected them.

  20. anony writes:

    >nothing of value
Tell me about your pantsu and how it has basically no releases, and the ones that it has are ripped from .si

to be fair though, localization in fansubs isn’t as noticeable if you already know the most basic tenets of japanese in anime. you literally hear the characters say that stuff, doesn’t matter if bottom text does. i do hate localization in manga scanlations, however, but that’s besides the point.

  23. mj_target writes:

@Fyurie go home and finish your own BD batches of all the shows you’ve never completed

  24. Eruzo writes:

Ignoring the discussing above. Nice to see a release, but seeing as there might be a complete batch I’ll hold off on the download till I can get the whole thing in one go.

Sorry, before i was fans of coal girl because they keeping the nuance to original [not westernized] and from what i see in the comment section, coalgirl is changed, so before i try back using coalgirl again because finally they active again i want to ask beforehand, are they totally changed and start westernizing the anime now?
i will not complaint your preference but i also not want waste my time either downloading from here so i ask first. [no offense]

btw for people who want watch good sub for this anime use vpn and go to museasia, their translation for this anime is good and accurate+have honorific too. [this is for non english speaker or english speaker that not strct on english order line].

  26. Hippo101 writes:

@Fyurie Wrong, you are going down a path to brokenness. Why would you think wokeness is the way to go for your fansub?

    >to be fair though, localization in fansubs isn’t as noticeable if you already know the most basic tenets of japanese in anime. you literally hear the characters say that stuff, doesn’t matter if bottom text does.

Actually it’s matter for me because i can see and hear, if what i heard and what i see is different i will hate it, i also get same answer from people who prefer english dub, if english sub not match english dub they also will hate it. thats why i use jp sub below and english sub above in case i am not understand [dual sub]. sadly i still need more studying at least until i can understand 90% of it before i can totally ignore english sub quality.

Sorry for dual post, i can’t edit and combine it.

  28. Sengoku N writes:

How is it even on the table that it’s OK to omit honorifics?

Imagine being such a cultural supremacist that you think it’s just fine to whitewash another culture, and at the same time complain about hollywood being whitewashed.

  29. Fat writes:

when will the remaining eps be uploaded? and as for the subs if u find it shit just use another sub or edit it urself and add honorifics.

Yikes. This basically tells everything lmao.

    >Our subs are incredibly accurate

Yes like when you TL “onee-sama” as “Darling” instead of just using “sissy” or “big sis” or anything else. Very accurate my man.

Thanks GJM for the translation and CoalGirls the batch! While I’m not in fansubbing, as a scanlator I understand the choices way too well, and keep doing what you like. Having more options is objectively better; people can always choose what they want to watch and that’s fine.
