Yoshi-kun, CG uses FLAC which should be lower filesize than DTS-ES and the 1,5gb diffence of 4400kbps video bitrate make we wanna choose CG’s version over THORA’s version.

  2. Yoshi-kun writes:

    @puma99dk|
Yea, thora ain’t into FLAC, so CG is choice #1. I just needed more justification to download Eva for the third time. Thx ^^

  3. Virtual_ManPL writes:

Thank you for lossless audio πŸ™‚

  4. Tiago writes:

    I have a question.
Which one is the best sub? I know THORA used UTW’subs, but like fool said, Wiki translation seems to be very good… Can I have opinions?

I personally would go with the Americanized track. I reworked a few lines, replaced some with UTW’s where I thought the wording or translation was shaky, reworked some typesetting, and generally improved it. The UTW track is exactly that – no modifications or improvements made.

  5. Tiago writes:

    Oh, thanks for that πŸ™‚
I’ll go with Track 1 then.

  6. Meatrose writes:

Just a question; what do you mean by “Americanized”? I’ve noticed lately that people define that term in different ways.

Reversed name order, dropped honorifics, any Japanese terms translated as closely as possible in English.

  7. Zero writes:

    Screen shot with subtitles, please?

  8. derp writes:

Is it me or I can’t really tell the difference in image quality between the three releases.

  9. Anon writes:

I went most of the way with Thora’s download until I saw you did this. I really want to see it as well, since it looks like it is great quality. Only complaint is that I can’t seem to get a speed over 5 kB/s, though I know that is my problem, not yours.
    Thanks so much!

  10. Hige writes:

I don’t know if it’s me but there are only 3 seeds for the 1080p version. πŸ™

  11. Aozora writes:

Just started to download 1080p version
    no 100% seed ? All in 26.2% ?
Should I continue donwloading ? or switch to other version ?

  12. Bakemonofan writes:

720p is in 61.3% right now

  13. Chris writes:

Thanks guys, as a loyal watcher to most things you guys sub, I would like to say you guys are epic, and would anyone be uploading this onto rapidshare?

    thanks

  14. derp writes:

1 seed, 351 peers for the 720p torrent. Oh dear lord.

  15. Bloodios writes:

I downloaded THORA’s 1080p & 720p version (for the sake of comparing the quality) two days after I started downloading Coalgirls’ versions, and they’re done while Coalgirls’ are far from finish.

Now that Kobato and Seikon no Qwaser are dropped, I’ll stop seeding them and delete them from my computer.

  16. MuzicFreq writes:

hmmm Kinda iffy on the subs a little, I just feel odd with Shinji being called coattail where in the subs thora used is daddy’s boy.

  17. rawnoc writes:

is there not an LFE channel in the audio or is that just me?

  18. John writes:

There shouldn’t be 7.1 channels instead of 5.1?
The sound of the voices is kinda low.

    Oh, I mislabelled the track. It’s 6.1.

  19. John writes:

    6.1 channels*

  20. rawnoc writes:

hmmmm, okay so after messing around with audio settings in ffdshow, I found that the LFE signal plays through the BackL channel with some extra sound like music and the BackC signal plays through BackR.

  21. John writes:

Third time I’ve seen it in two days, beautiful movie and awesome soundtrack but I think it still can’t top End of Evangelion.
And in some scenes I have to uncheck the subtitles because it’s a damned resource eater =P

  22. philip writes:

what kind of computer do you have John?

  23. John writes:

    A netbook. (embarassment)
It’s an Acer D250, but I’ve never had problem playing 720p, but I guess the super combo of 720p + FLAC + Dialogue Softsubs + Karaoke subs it’s a fatality. I’m gonna upgrade the ram.

  24. MuzicFreq writes:

John, lemme guess a 1.6GHz Atom cpu?
If you have an nvida chipset for the GPU you might be able to use COREAVC2.0 and have the video decode through cuda. . . but I dunno much about netbooks.

  25. John writes:

Yeah, sadly this doesn’t has a nvidia chipset =(

  26. nwt writes:

mplayer has recently added support for acceleration by newer Intel and AMD/ATI chipsets. Though I don’t know how much of that is supported if its Windows version is run (I use Arch Linux). Anyway, if you have to use Windows, try MPC Home Cinema and ffdshow-tryouts, both always found in their current builds at xvidvideo.ru . ffdshow-tryouts too have recently added support for hardware acceleration, though I prefer the way more mature (and also recently expanded…) build-in support by MPC HC (to use it, disable both “software” and “hardware” H.264 support in f-t and check HC’s settings).

  27. Nick writes:

Hmm.. VLC is not playing the audio track? Anyone??

  28. rawnoc writes:

Audio track doesn’t play in VLC and a couple of the channels are messed up when using ffdshow. AC3filter doesn’t work sense AC3filter doesn’t support more than 5.1 channels.

  29. coalgirls writes:

I wonder why you are having problems. It’s obviously not because we didn’t encode these files with VLC in mind. Oh, heavens no. It’s certainly not a problem with VLC sucking, FFDShow FLAC sucking, and you attempting to use unsupported playback solutions.

Use what we suggest or don’t come crying about it.

  30. Nick writes:

Got it running with CCCP. Thanks for the help.

  31. MuzicFreq writes:

CCCP never has failed me once…. well…. it sometimes will screw up a video and it will fly through the whole episode of something in 5 seconds
    =.=

Here are several screen-shots for comparison between Coalgirls and THORA:

    -THORA:

    http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/9215/thora1080p2.jpg

    http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/8839/thora1080p7.jpg

Well, personally, JPEG format don’t do justice to the actual quality of these screen-shots but every time I tried to capture them in PNG or BMP format, the pictures have these weird blocky, pixelated kind of artifact (especially when it comes to the color red, remember the old comparison picture of THORA that Coalgirls posted a while back, it’s just like that!), and it happened to both THORA and Coalgirls’ version (but I supposed it’s because ffdshow fail at capturing screen-shots).

  34. Michael writes:

I had the same problem with the audio in VLC, so tried CCCP/Media Player Classic. Sounds is fine, but I am unable to activate the subtitles. o.O The subtitle option is faded out in the menu.

  35. Bloodios writes:

I used K-Lite Codec Pack + CoreAVC, and I don’t seem to have any problem, I also enabled ffdshow FLAC decoder so it can down mix those 7 channels to 2, but everything went smoothly so far. Seriously, if K-Lite Codec Pack works out for me than CCCP must works wonder (I like K-Lite so I picked it, but I do acknowledge that CCCP is better), if you have playback problems, I suspect that the problems lie in your machine, and VLC just doesn’t work, I mean seriously…it’s hideous and tedious to get it to work.

  36. Steve writes:

    @Michael
With CCCP/Media Player Classic Subtitles can be found/switched at “Filters – DirectVobSub(auto-loading version)” (If CCCP has correctly installed Media Player Classic AND VSFilter.)

  37. HurpusDurpus writes:

KMPlayer/MPlayer displays the subtitles fine, but I’m only getting two channels of audio with no way to downmix it to stereo. In KMPlayer I can change the speaker setting to virtual headphone mode but that sounds awful.

MPC-HC sounds perfect, but I can’t get the subtitles to display, the box is grayed out.

  38. John writes:

    @HurpusDurpus
The subtitles are selected from the “Navigate” menu, not the “Play” menu, in case you’re looking there.

  39. edan writes:

    ALL HAIL UTW-THORA
    yeah….

  40. Haru writes:

Could any of you upload the subtitle tracks separately Plz if it not against the rules or something. Coz I’m having a hard time with my old system rightnow about data storage and some other limitations.
So I’m having problem downloading these wonderful releases but I really do like Coalgirls. So plzzz.

  41. nwt writes:

    @HurpusDurpus

You need to have a Renderer selected (check the options) that supports subtitles. If you are running Vista or 7, the best one might be EVR.

  42. nwt writes:

I’ve just noticed that UTW released a patch for their translation ( http://utw.me/2010/05/30/evangelion-2-22-you-can-not-advance ) that is supposed to fix about all quarrels – aside from it being still very liberal – people had with it.

Does this release already incorporate it? Or if not, could you please release your own patch / script, including your own remaining changes? :S

  43. Pain writes:

i’m at 92.8%. almost done.i hope you guys release your version of 1.11. thanks a lot. you rule!!!

  44. Bloodios writes:

I also have question concerning UTW’s patch? Will there be a version 2 or did you guys already checked and fixed all the typos during the modification process?

Beside,…UTW’s subs does have karaoke effects…I think…not that this has anything to do with anything.

    We used the patched version.

  46. Kou writes:

Did anyone also got a small video error in the 1080 version ? it happens 01:26:16-01:26:18. There’s a flash of white dots all over the screeen. It appears briefly for about 0.1s.
