Your translation for line 2 is much better than mine. I wasn’t able to come up with the correct wording for that line so I kind of over-simplified it because Erio seemed to be going “grrrr grrrr” after she moved closer to him.
Actually, all I head from Erio was “mofu-mofu-mofu” 😀

ChrisK I’d recommend you use dmonhiro’s lines as they are both accurate and fit with the talking styles of the characters. But this is just my opinion.
I used the 4th line like that because it’s a lot fatser in Japanese, so I tried to make is shorter so you would have time tor read it.

You’ve all done a pretty good job. Be careful J3N0V4 about 2, line 1, Clark’s right, he says he likes her cooking.
Now let’s tackle the third together, maybe we’ll find a correct translation that way. Here’s what I think she says, I don’t know if some syllables are not going through the futon, so it probably won’t make so much sense :
Line 1: Hatara heda, hatara heda (Well hataraku means to work, I think this is a start)
Line 2: Mafuniya narazu (narazu generally means to become)
Line 3: Hontou Onii-san warawa, yarashii kyoujyuu no sugoshi kara mahou (this doesn’t make any sense, something like, Onii-san, the truth is I’m a disgusting teacher who can do wonderful magic… like I said, doesn’t make any sense^^)

(This means she expected his place to be small. If you live in an apartment in Japan, when you want to air out your futon, you have to hang it out your window or porch since you have no yard with a clothesline to hang it on. The more futons you have, the more ridiculous is looks. Seeing futons being aired out is a common thing you see in Japan.)
line 2: But it’s actually a fine wooden house. (mokuzou means wooden, and she’s implying house)
line 3: The door is locked.

They are inside her great-grandmother’s general store when Eiro says “oku, iku?” In many Japanese small businesses, the storefront is attached to the house with a partition between the two (imagine the Furukawa Bakery in Clannad). I still stand by my “going inside when you’re already inside sounds weird” reasoning but it’s up to you.

at the risk of sounding like a complete n00b, were eps 03-04 released at any point? I’ve been watching the conversation here about the additional dialogue in the eps 05-06, but wanted to also be looking over the other eps, or if they’d been released……..since I haven’t found links for them just yet.

Episode 05 new1 line 9: I think she’s saying because of her appearance (being “toge toge”) she’s full of personality and not someone with no taste and no personality. “Mushumi” is no taste and “Botsukosei” is no personality.
Episode 05 new2:line 1: I think in this case, it shows a very Japanese way of apologizing about everything. I think it just simply means he has no intention of learning to cook since Meme’s cooking is good, thus his reaction to her comment.
Episode 05 new3: I can maybe understand parts of it but I’m not sure if makes any sense. Something like working gets me nowhere, that he can probably do it due to being a perverted professor? All I hear is “iyarashii kyouju” at the end.
Listening to it again to the Episode 05 new2:line 1, ChrisK is totally right. I don’t know why I missed that. Meme is rephrasing Makoto’s “but I like your cooking” to him wanting her to make breakfast every morning for him.

05 new1 line09 is definitely “kosei”, not “tosei” because tosei is usually used in the context of work or jobs (ie. Coal mining is my livelihood). I just want to know what the meaning of the word after is, the one you transliterated as “sanrya tte”. That I feel is the missing piece to this puzzle. Or maybe not lol.

It might be better to change it to breakfast to get the point across better but I doubt it will be an issue of contention for 99% of viewers anyway. It’s going to be nigh on impossible to convey the same meaning as the original Japanese version.
I’m going to try to take a shot at 05 new3 again and see what I can get. Probably nothing, but it’s worth a try. ^^;
Yeah you’re right about kosei (since I hear mikame, when it’s mitame, I thought maybe when I hear kosei, it’s actually tosei^^). Apart from that, I can’t find any references to sanrya on the web, it’s highly possible it doesn’t even exist…

That’s the other way to translate that scene. The reason why I translated it the way I did was because lines 1 and 2 are, I think, a reference to a pretty famous poem that goes like:
はたらけど
はたらけど猶わが生活楽にならざり (zari is the same as zu)
ぢつと手を見る
It’s a poem that most Japanese high schoolers should have at least heard of and one that I covered in one of my Classical Japanese classes. This scene has been bothering me for a while because though I couldn’t make out the words, it sounded extremely familiar and knew I had heard it before somewhere. Anyway, in the context of the poem, the subject is “I” which is why I chose to translate it that way.
That being said, this isn’t literature class so we’re free to make our translations as liberal or conservative as we’d like. I say we at least change lines 2 and 3 to:
line 2: but life never gets any easier.
line 3: Spending the day wrapped up in your futon is the right way to spend a day off!
I’ll leave line 1 up to you guys.

I never would’ve guessed that you two weren’t non-native English speakers. You’re both very good.
The way I originally saw it was that she wasn’t talking to Makoto but just babbling to herself because after Makoto throws her in the bicycle basket, she says “good morning” which makes that line seem like their first contact that day.
Technically, none of the translations and their variations are inaccurate since the subject is unclear, but I would definitely keep “work” instead of “trying”. At this point, I would probably go with “You can work and work” because “I work and work” might be confusing for the people watching for the reasons Alucryd brought up, especially if there is no TL note about the poem thing.
