    WTF. How can remuxing fix a video glitch. Maybe you meant reencode?

  5. Katsu writes:

    why is the file so large??

  6. PanamaPunk writes:

    @Katsu
    Mostly Grain. That’s how the anime was made. Grain makes the filesize really big.

    Uh, the heavy grain isn’t a glitch, it was purely an (insanely dumb) aesthetic choice made by the studio. Anyway, here are a few responses from the staff a while back:
    “We tried re-encoding to 1080p, but even with 10bit we ended up with a file that was bigger than the source due to the massive grain, hence: remux.”
    “A BD itself is compressed using AVC. 25 minutes of uncompressed 1080p video is usually about 120 GB at minimum. The encoder essentially uncompresses the AVC and recompresses it. So if the efficiency is less than the AVC encoder used by the BD studio, it will be bigger.”
    “The studio encoder just gets limited to 36 Mbit/s for the Blu-ray specs. However, when we re-encode, we don’t do that, so x264 might end up eating even more bit-rate to preserve the quality which easily happens with grainy sources.”

    hi,
    thx for your great work, but can you please post the updated scripts for the other movies. I don’t need a patch, just the script and if changed the fonts. I think there are others like nameless and me, who also want that. i have a slow inet, so it will take a wihle to dl the last movie, so there is enought time to post it, so you don’t have to rush, becaue I will watch all movies in a row

    i would be really happy if you could post it, but I think i can live without it, if you don’t do it^^

    anyway THX

    Where are they? I’ve searched around but can’t find them.

    I might be missing something obvious, but if you could tell me where they are I’d be very grateful 🙂

    Thank you, excellent work!

    There is only 1 little problem – 720p version is around 25MB bigger than DVD+R DL… :'(

    Hi! I was just wondering if this torrent is slow for anyone else ;w;”?
    I’ve been downloading it for about 11 hours and it’s only 37% completed? It might just be my internet connection but I’m just wondering if anyone else is having problems >.<"?

  19. basis writes:

    @hikari, there’s over 200 seeders atm on the 720p version, myself included. it shouldn’t be too slow (it should download at your usual d/l speed, whatever it may be). it took me a while to download when the torrent got first released, although i imagine it has only gotten faster since then.

    try tweaking your torrent prog a bit, but i imagine that your usual settings work just fine in most cases. just sit tight.
    movies are best for sunday afternoons anyways, save the marathon for tomorrow! <— best choice.

    HOW THE HELL I APPLY THE PATCH WHEN THERE IS NO XDELTA.EXE AND BAT FILE

    PLEASE, DUDE

    DO THIS THROUGHLY EVEN IF IT’S JUST A PATCH
    BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT’S REALLY ANNOYING IF U HAVE PATCH AND U CAN’T APPLY IT
    I’M NOT AS SMART AS YOU GUYS WHO CAN APPLY IT NICELY AND PROPERLY DONE
    I’M JUST A NORMAL USER WHO ONLY CAN ENJOY YOUR WORK AND COULDN’T CREATE ANY XDELTA FILE OR THE BAT FILE.

    THANK YOU

    @Scumbag
    Just download xdelta from internet.
    And write this on notepad:

    xdelta3 -d -s “oldname.mkv ” “patch_you_have.xdelta” “newname.mkv”

    Save as whatever.bat in folder that contains patch file
    Run bat file.
    Done.

    Thanks ChrisK and Coalgirls.

    personally i dug the hell out of yr. 1080p version of this, and yes, the file size is well worth it – you guys were the only group who preserved all that gorgeous grain and beautiful animation to its’ full potential…bless you all for your hard work preserving this movie the way it was meant to be seen…….lastly, thanks much for the 8 bit as i’m one of those poor saps whose geriatric pc can only play back hi end stuff through the use of cuda……would love to see more 8 bit encodes for us poor folks….

  27. Bloodios writes:

    @octal9
    Don’t count on seeing them from Coalgirls, as the staffs here no longer see any relevancy in 8-bit encodes. The only reason why the 1080p version is 8-bit (and also why they look so good) is because they’re simply Blu-ray files repackaged into mkv. So unless there happen to be peculiar cases in the future where things don’t quite work out properly and remuxing is deem the better approach, releases here are more or less all going to be 10-bit.

    I just compared Underwater’s 720p to Coalgirls’ 720p. Underwater appears to be a bit sharper. I don’t know what the 1080p versions are like though.
