We are were a group dedicated to creating HD Blu-ray re-encodes with English subtitles. We may occasionally also encode from TV or Web rips or do SD DVD encodes.
We will not:
- Encode a series we are not interested in (which is most likely one you are).
- Release a v2 outside of a batch unless it is something really major (Example: Video plays in reverse).
- Create patches. We’d rather waste your bandwidth than our time.
- Release SD versions of HD encodes.
- Release resolutions larger than the source.
- Encode from pre-encoded raws.
- Encode lossless Blu-ray audio to anything other than FLAC.
- Use R1 (Retail) subs when there is a good fansub.
We will do what we want, and do not care about your opinion.
(unless we ask for it)
just wanted to say, good job!
heard about you watching kanon 720p. what an encode! (currently downloading 1080p :p)
i was so happy to see there is a group out there that understands what HD standards meen. no upskale res, no SD of HD source (good video bitrates too :D), and nothing other than FLAC audio. Really good job. i can only hope that since you are working on a Clannad HD, your plans will include the afterstory in HD as well. i’ll be visiting this place on a weekly basis.
THANK YOU!
I love what you guys do and I think your policies are great!! I will definitely be sending small donations from time to time.
Just gotta ask: what’s with the fansub groups starting with “coal”? Like Coalguys and Coalgirls. Are they related at all? Is there some kind of “coal” meme I haven’t heard about?
For those that have problems with activating DXVA through MPC-HC
http://imouto.my/watching-h264-videos-using-dxva/
This has been the most comprehensive explanation of how to enable and check to see if your hardware can support DXVA for both ATI and Nvidia based cards.
Additionally, if you have an ATI Radeon 3xxx and up graphic card and use Catalyst 10.7 or higher. VLC Media Player does support hardware acceleration when you enable the check box in the options/preferences.
Man, you guys have sexy encodes. That is all.
YOU GUYS ARE ONE OF THE BEST!!!!! and IT seems most of my fave groups have female names….strange that I just noticed that….
Thanks for the great releases. You gals/guys are coaler. Definitely my fave. 🙂
Hey!
Love your work, I really do! But for a group with such a big fan-base, I most admit there’s not enough seeders! O.o
Currently DL’ing ”Kiddy girl-and”, and when I’m looking at the number(s) of seeder(s) there’s like 5 seeders and I’m DL’ing in 6-20 kb/s. And this problem I tend to find on quite the majority of the torrents. If you have a way of solving this issue or you need help; give me a hint! =)
Sincerely; Souldevourer [swe]
We are only able to seed our latest releases, we do so till about 1-2 weeks after release. We are unfortunately unable to seed every single one of our releases due to it being cost prohibitive, seeding ~1.5TB is just not doable.
If your looking to improve your speeds I recommend getting a seedbox they can be had for decently cheap, in addition to faster download speeds on your end, you will also be helping us out.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work 😉
I like what you do, and also how you do it. Keep up the good work.
Got a question. I know y’all don’t generate your own subs/translations, but I was wondering if you needed any sort of proofreading help. I’ve been a fansub fan for the better half of a decade, and I haven’t really had opportunity to give back to the community, if you will, so I thought I might check if you could use someone with proofreading skills (grammar, spelling, OCR etc). Else, know any good groups that might appreciate this sort of offer?
Coalgirls is my favorite group. I always get your releases cause I know I’ll be getting the best of the best. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Thanks for your great works, you are always one of my favorite group. I like your releases a lot, and I would like to ask for permission to use some of your releases for translation in my language (Vietnamese). If you agree, please inform me via my email. Thanks in advance and I’m looking forward to your response ;).
I must say, you guys are doing an EXCELLENT job! Your releases are both high-quality and amazing. Before downloading from other translators, I check to see if you guys have it first. No one can beat you guys! 😀 On a side note, I find it amazing how there are even unappreciative comments on this site. Some people are just buttholes -__-“
Thank you so much for subbing Cardcaptor Sakura!
I’m watching it right now and stuck on episode 35.
I’ma wait 3 weeks for the BD release of the movies!!!
This is so nostalgic!!!
I have allot of problems with your releases and the frame rate. Is there a reason you don’t have a fixed frame rate on your release? I use xbmc for my media box and get stuttering because of the constant changes in frame rate. I love the quality of your releases, just this problem on my media box is frustrating.
Thank you for the high-quality encodes.
Thank you for the awesome fansub group choices.
Thank you for using Nyaa instead of those BakaBT fuckers.
Keep up the good work. 🙂
We will do what we want, and do not care about your opinion.
(unless we ask for it)
Ahhh,…. but you WAITED for me….
so I know better!
Love ya, Coalgirls!
I want ask
Are all the series here in English interpreterØŸ
I mean )blur ry
You peeps in any way related to Zhentarim DivX aka zx?
Thank you for producing the highest quality files on the net.
I use a Popcorn Hour C-200 to watch your files from my computer. Until very recently all files played 100% perfect. I have now run into a few series which only sound plays and video is a black screen. This includes Ookami_to_Koushinryou and Macross Frontier. Have you changed your encoding methods at all rendering them incompatable with PopcornHour?
Thank You for all your hard work and great service.
Does Popcorn Hour support hi10p (10-bit h264)? Probably doesn’t, at the minimum use a nightly build of VLC or the latest stable CCCP.
Just want to say thank you for the work you’ve done & continue doing. Been a follower of your subs for quite some time. They are well done. Especially appreciate the 1080p when it is available. Just finished Mardock Scramble: The First Compression. Looking forward to the Second! I have never seen a link to donate to you but if donations are accepted, please email me.
Any plan on doing BD for Last Exile or Seitokai no Ichizon?
#9 is why I love you guys/girls.
**** localized dub-subs that rewrite entire jokes/situations/etc.
Do you plan doing Sora no Otoshimono ???
Is too good to be missed…
Coalgirls for the win. All your subs rock.
Coalgirlers, you guys rockz.
BTw, any plan for Mirai Nikki and/or Guilty Crown?
“Release resolutions larger than the source”
Lies… FMA:Brotherhood was definitely drawn in 960*540 (0.5*0.5 FullHd). As were probably many other shows.
Source = Blu-ray, so 1920×1080. It just means that we won’t do any upscaling ourself. We don’t care what the studio did.
Hi Coalgirls. I’ve noticed you consistently downvoted to oblivion in MyAnimeList.net (a mammoth of an anime site, I’m sure you’ve heard of it) where people also rate fansub groups per anime. So I decided to ask why:
http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=371625&show=0#post14
Hopefully it’ll clear up some annoying misunderstandings and get you a bit more positive coverage. Unless, of course, you didn’t want that, in which case, my sincere apologies.
Also my undying thanks for your work. I almost always choose your releases whenever I get the chance, and really can’t understand all the hate and bitching.
>We will do what we want and do not care about your opinion
Pretty much, the second part of that says my opinion on MAL.
Sorry, not sure how to quote or reply here.
“coalgirl says:
>We will do what we want and do not care about your opinion
Pretty much, the second part of that says my opinion on MAL.”
Haha, I noticed. But isn’t it always nice to get a little recognition for all your selfless efforts? Besides, that thread isn’t really about me “caring” so much as it is Curiosity musing into why others find your releases so atrocious, especially with such silly, nonsensical reasons like “stealing” subs, using FLAC, ordered chapters, or bloated filesizes. Maybe clear up a few of these misunderstandings along the way, so people don’t end up ignoring your releases due to all the low votes. I mean, you’ve resubbed so much anime with superb medleys of quality only to be buried to obscurity on such a large anime site… the disdain is almost ridiculous.
Selfless efforts? Everything I do is selfish. I only do shows I’m interested in and drop when it bores me. I just release so that I can have a place to DL it from in the future if I want it, rather than save it on my HDD.
Hmm, not sure why that above link I posted points to a random post, but here’s a better link to those reading and wondering what I’m referring to: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=371625&show=0
“coalgirl says:
I only do shows I’m interested in and drop when it bores me.”
The way it should be done. Why waste life? The selfless part was you even bothering to release it.
“coalgirl says:
I just release so that I can have a place to DL it from in the future if I want it, rather than save it on my HDD.”
Hmm, I’m having trouble believing that. Surely there are better ways than decentralized torrents that can die at whim? Unless there a few things behind the scenes I’m not getting yet, they must be archived somewhere. Most people stockpile their archives for themselves. But you release. That eo ipso I call pretty selfless, whatever you call it.
“9. Use R1 subs when there is a good fansub.”
A little suggestion: Maybe modify this to something like “good (softsubbed) fansub” or “good fansub with softsubbed dialogue available” — it would be something to point to if people ask things like “Why didn’t you use Nanashi for Eureka 7?” or “Why didn’t you use Static-Subs for My-Hime/My-Otome?”
“We’d rather waste your bandwidth than our time.”
Wow… that’s some awesomely brutal honesty right there. Also really funny to read.
if you need some encoding power i can help as needed i have extreamlly power machines and decent upload.
Just wanted to say Thank You for all the hard work over the years ^_^
Hi Coalgirls, could you make something like ‘Coalgirls Banner Collecticon’ for download? It’s just your banners are awesome!! XD
I wish all you guys/gals and fellow fans a very merry Xmas, may we spend another hundred merrier years together :X
Could you make Clannad Movie?
What are you plans on Nisemonogatari?
Hi, just wondering if you have any plans on doing Ghost Hunt?
You guys Are the best and Highest quality subbers! I enjoy watching the anime and I appreciate you!!
Hello everybody,
For a research project at my university, I’m trying to find out to what extent fansubbing has influenced the professional subtitling industry. I hope some of you could answer some questions for me. Thank you in advance!
How do you see the ethical and legal side of fansubbing?
Is there cooperation between fansubbers and professionals?
Do you offer any support for the anime companies?
Do you see them as enemies or friends?
Do you know of anyone who started doing fansubs and ended up finding a career as professional subtitler?
What is your motivation to provide fansubs?
> How do you see the ethical and legal side of fansubbing?
It’s their own fault that they don’t manage to supply decently subbed anime in decent quality in a decent timeframe.
> Is there cooperation between fansubbers and professionals?
Usually not.
> Do you offer any support for the anime companies?
They usually wouldn’t want it.
> Do you see them as enemies or friends?
We? We don’t care about them.
> Do you know of anyone who started doing fansubs and ended up finding a career as professional subtitler?
I heard of someone who started as fansubber and is now working for NicoNico’s streaming site.
> What is your motivation to provide fansubs?
We don’t really do fansubs here, we just take them from other groups and put them on Blu-ray encodes. But the motivation for that is usually to have a release that is exactly like we want it to be. And since it’s still quite a lot of work, we might just as well share it to put it to some greater use.
Many thanks for answering!
Hello!
I’m currently writing some posts on my blog about fansubbing and my final post will feature a couple of fansub groups answering the following question:
“Why do you fansub?”.
It would be very fun if you wanted to participate! In that case, just send me a mail. The length of the answer doesn’t matter, so if you want to write something huge, or short, go ahead! If you wish to be anonymous, please tell me.
Thanks in advance!
“We’d rather waste your bandwidth than our time.” Brutal lol. You guys seem to have the highest quality encodes of a lot of series on Nyaa so I must purrouse them.
I have a request regarding the “Torrents” page.
You use the default column sort by Series Name then by Episode (if applicable) then by playback Size.
I would sincerely appreciate being able to re-sort it by (preferably descending) upload date.
It’s not a requirement and the world won’t end if you don’t want to do it. It’s just something I would be grateful for.
😉
as I have seen the fullmetal alchemist, what a so nice work!
I want to know if your group has any ideal about dub the animation~~~~~
You guys are great.
Great quality, simple to set up and what not, etc.
thanks a million <3
I’m probably being stupid here, but you only do anime that was officially released on blu-ray (and only anime you want to, ofc), right? Cause I’ve read plenty of places that, in order to increase quality, you would have to add the missing data to each frame, and I imagine that would be an extreme amount of work
