    @aurabolt: they did a very capable fansub during airing, and they are pretty competent at bloating encodes for maximum quality themselves. They carefully filtered video artifacts away while maintaining maximum detail. Once coalgirls release their final batch we’ll see who ended up with the best encode.

  2. melphis writes:

    Torrent please.

  3. aurabolt writes:

    Okay? Read back. I care about none of that. As in I’m completely neutral regarding encodes. (Who cares which release is better? Watch whatever the heck you want.)

    If you care to read on, it’s just matter of stylistic difference for me. Even when using another group’s script, Coalgirls does things differently.

    Anyway, I prefer this opening, which seems to only use the localized track. It’s simple, free of cute effects, and doesn’t draw any damn logos.

  4. Spearit writes:

    @coalgirl Why do you prefer using DDL instead of torrents? just curious

  5. Verix writes:

    @aurabolt my bad.
    @Spearit if you look closely there’s only 9 episodes in the DLLs so far, with a note “ETA – 2 weeks (Episodes 1-13)”. So there’ll be a torrent once all 13 or 26 are released. They just aren’t done yet.

  6. Spearit writes:

    @Verix thanks for the answer

    The group doesn’t just have the name you realize, UTW is full of Type moon fags who love and know more about the type moon universe than you’d ever dream of. Plus they’ve done the UBW movie and the TV releases for Fate Zero. Whenever the Type moon universe is involved you can be sure that UTW will put in the effort and deliver a top notch encode. Well even when the type moon universe isn’t involved they’re a pretty amazing group.

    Spearit, I hate partial torrents, pretty much, but I want to release something. So this is the middle ground.

    will you do the special that comes with the BluRay boxes ?

    Thank you!

    PS: The 720p and 1080p links refer to the other one’s torrent.

  15. alyu writes:

    umm, am I the only one getting lots of grainy looking images in some of these eps? especially episodes 8 and 9; there are a bunch of scenes that look messed up.

    is this an issue with the 1080p only? I dont think it is my computer, since I can watch a bunch of other releases from here in 1080p fine

  16. damedame writes:

    @alyu:
    Have you ever played 10bit releases?

  17. Verix writes:

    @alyu, if you’re talking about plain digital grain, it was in the source encode and can be distracting indeed. UTW filtered it away.

  18. clafujiwara writes:

    Are the UTW subtitles the ones from the batch release?

  19. Odoakr writes:

    Its 25 episodes not 26…

  20. Th3avatar writes:

    So I saw UTW version got accepted on bakabt, but no problem.
    CGi is like a brand name for encoding and lots of people have a heartfelt connection to it.

  21. Th3avatar writes:

    @jun
    Learn how to playback mkv, they even created an unlocalized “Playall” file.
    All videos on this release has 2 streams for subtitles, first one is R1 from BD, localized stuff, while second one is UTW’s to make CGi release different than UTW’s. So if you want unlocalized stuff, just put the subtitle stream on the UTWs or use the unlocalized playall before you go bitchin around.

  22. jun writes:

    I’m talking about the kanji on OP & ED karaoke.
    coalgirls doesn’t even include this. lame.

  23. Verix writes:

    Oh, I actually like the PlayAll option. All releases should adopt this!

  24. alyu writes:

    @damedame

    yes, all the time. I’m not really good with technical terms, but in a lot of places there is a bunch of big pixel-ish squares. I have the latest cccp and coreavc, as far as I know, btw, and all other 10-bit releases from coalgirls are fine. Using MPC-HC

    @Verix
    I dont think it is something distracting as so much as completely unwatchable in a few scenes. I also get loops of some of the scenes with the pixels – one example I can think of is when sakura shows up on the op for ep 8 or 9, she stays on the screen super pixelated for a while. I need to pause and restart when this happens.

  25. Verix writes:

    Alyu, if its more blocky than pixelated it means that the decoding is too heavy and starts to get buggy. Grainy 10-bit video tends to be a bit on the heavy processing side. If you have a powerful PC, though, I’ve no clue what went wrong.

  26. alyu writes:

    @Verix

    I dont have a very powerful comp…I suppose this is the reason then (though the other episodes were fine)

    Would there be a point to downloading the 720p version? would that lower the amount of processing power needed (or something like that? not good at this technical stuff)

  27. 238497 writes:

    So is the 1080p worth downloading? like is the quality obviously better? Going from 10GB to 30GB is kinda tough for me, but if the 1080 is obviously better than I would download that.

  28. BThirster writes:
  29. Sake writes:

    @Alyu

    If you follow the playback setup for Mpc-hc on Coalgirls Playback page then there should be no reason for you to even have cccp the only thing extra in there is DirectVOBSub and you can get that seperately. Reset your MPC the way the guide says after you remove cccp and you shouldn’t have any problems.

    Are 720p releases 10bit?

  31. phunixid writes:

    @ Kamikaze
    yes, as far as I know

  32. Odoakr writes:

    Im sure now coalgirls stupid i said 2 months before for god sake its 25 episodes not 26! 13+12=25

  33. Another16 writes:

    You guys should just leave out the retail subtitles. UTW’s work is immaculate. I’ve watched this entire series with their subs with a scrutinizing eye and the quality and vocabulary of their subs for this series are pretty much perfect.

    Any word on disc 2? Thanks for all the hard work. I wish you would stick to 8 bit releases, but transcoding them to 8 bit and remuxing isn’t a lot of work I guess.

    Cheers!

  39. Allan Petabyte writes:

    I am teaming with anticipation for Disc 2.
    Thank you coalgirl for all the hard work and I love the extreme quality the encoders here use.
    Pff 8-bit, if you can’t get with the times and bother to own a rig that can play 10-bit with ease, then go somewhere else. 10-bit is a must, especially if you are someone like me and have close to half of all their projects and demand this level of quality. I wish more encoders would use 10-bit as the current standard.

  40. electroglyph writes:

    Of course I have a rig that can play 10 bit. But I have plenty of devices that can’t play 10 bit and it doesn’t even look any better. Don’t get all pretentious now, if you were a real snob you’d just have your petabyte NAS full of raw BD rips and you wouldn’t be hanging around a site like this waiting for scraps.

  41. Allan Petabyte writes:

    Then since 8-bit remuxing isn’t a lot of work then do it yourself.
    Besides 10-bit does look better at relative bitrates. These 10-bit encodes look better than the 8-bit 1080p ones horriblesubs do (and they are half the size). Not to mention when viewing them on a 55” plasma, it looks like art.
    Also yes, yes I do have a NAS filled with my own raw BD rips of various media, doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy some anime before the BD are out so I can buy them.

  42. electroglyph writes:

    I just read the x264 docs on 10 bit and it is interesting, but it sounds like we should only see improvements for highly compressed rips. Anyways, I am satisfied that it’s definitely better quality.

    If you want a hardcore rip of this series, check out the ReinForce version. It’s 141GB at CRF15. You’ll have to add your own subtitles. Not seeded the best, I think I’ve hit a max of about 8mbit download speed.

  43. Allan Petabyte writes:

    Yeah basically 10-bit encode is anywhere from 20%-44% smaller file size compared to 8-bit for equal video quality, depending on the source.
    Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll have to check them out. I’ve already downed 2Tb this month i guess a few more gigs will not hurt. Also see if my ISP sends me an angry letter 🙂
    Hey they said and assured me that I am paying for unlimited up/download, not my fault I enjoy filling my HDD’s.

  44. electroglyph writes:

    nm on that release unless you’re okay with fixing subtitle delay. UTW subs are about 2 seconds off, I’ll probably just rip this box myself.

  45. 238497 writes:

    Is this ever going to be completed anytime soon? xD I wanna re-watch again in HD thanks.

    I’m pretty sure I’ve been seeing this status “Box 2 – Currently encoding Disc 8 of 9.” for quite some time. (unless I got the numbers wrong) Okay, let’s face it… it’s been there like forever. I understand that it’s going to be released ‘eventually’, but when?
    *not like me asking would make the process faster though
