    Wow! That’s true 10-bit encode)))

hi. these are pretty awesome size even though the series lacks any action. any chance of getting the 1st ep of Hidan no Aria in Hi10?

  3. Chicken writes:

3 episodes in the size and quality of 1 8bit release, I like it.

  4. hec writes:

I have been reading all over about the 10bit encode, is the difference that drastic, in your opinion whats the most noticeable difference, basically pros and cons, all I am hearing is better compression but is there any other thing you like about it.

  5. DmonHiro writes:

    10bit? I’m in.

@hec: Baiscally, it had 2 major advanteges, that are really the result of just one thing: better “accuracy”. It will give you better quality at the same filezise unless the 8bit was already at the maximum quality, in which case it will give you the same quality at a smaller file size.
Let me try and put it in a simple matter. On a scale of video quality from 1 to 10 we would have an 8bit encode that is of 300 MB and video quality 7. By using 10bit we could get:
    1. A 300 MB size but a 9 in video quality (presuming it’s possible)
    2. A 7 in video quality, but a 200 MB size.

Another advantage is that because of the better accuracy in color, we would get less banding.

    The more you know.

Cons: 10bit decoding is about 40% slower then 8 bit, and as of now, CUDA and DXVA do not support 10bit.

    Stuck at 99.9%, need 1 seed 😀

Fileserve list incomplete. I didn’t saw ep 1 in there.

  8. DarkChaplain writes:

Nice, I’ve wanted to look into Hi10 for some days now.
Any quick link to get encoding stuff myself?

  9. boingman writes:

Looks like Hi10 is really spreading like a wild fire in the fansub scene. Seems that nobody wants to miss out.
I am mostly watching my stuff on XBMC, so I’ll have to wait until there is proper support by the developers.

  10. Anoki writes:

It’s hard for me to grasp that something 100 mb or less is the same/better quality than say a 300-400 mb encode.

  11. Alucryd writes:

Awesome, I was gonna try encoding something in High 10 Profile to see the magic, and now you’ve done it, you made my day! Coalgirls, awesome as always!

  12. asfgsfghd writes:

holy mother of fuck. 100mb/episode? thats fucking crazy

even if you add in the OC’s, its still like 160mb for the very largest of the episodes

    im all in for hi10p

  13. Code537 writes:

Yez! 10-bit encodes… I’ve been waiting for this to see for myself!

  14. misha0209 writes:

    hi,
seems like i am the only one having this problem.
i use mpchc 1.5.0.2827, and because i do not like codec packs, i installed ffdshow rev 3925 ~ think that is the one in the cccp build you linked.
still, i see heavy blocking -.-
do i need to make extra settings to play a 10 bit file?

  15. coalgirl writes:

I’m using mpchc 1.5.2.3402 . But unless you install the codec pack, I’m not providing support for you.

  16. misha0209 writes:

    k,
did not know newer mpc is out 😛
will try it… if that fails, i get the codec pack

  17. misha0209 writes:

well, tried tu uninstall my current ffdshow and then install 3925, wouldn’t you know it, that fixed it 😛
you should give this thread a read: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1514459
seems clsid (ffdshow dev) sais: “Those builds are alpha quality and are not stable. They should be used with caution.”
also ffdshow is at 3940 and 10 bit is not yet enabled by devs – try enabling xsharpen in ffdshow while playing a 10 bit file, should be interesting~
quality is very impressive for file size, but i think you should delay your 10bit encode plans until stable decoders are out 😛

  18. Th3avatar writes:

I can confirm this works with either XBMC on ipad2 and other players in ubuntu.
Though I think you still see some blocks, but the filesize is amazing for something that actually works!
At least the filesize-quality ratio is acceptable. So keep it up and pls don’t make it any lower CRF before it breaks xD
    Keep up the good job.
If it does not break anything, than I’m in!

  19. Greg the Mad writes:

    Holyshitmotherfuck!

I actually dropped the series due to meh, but at those sizes … I’ll continue watching.
I mean 100MB? I have music albums that are bigger than that!

I welcome that you don’t change the codec mid-season, but I really hope you use it in the next season. 😀

  20. Chicken writes:

    Hi10 isn’t supported by XBMC or iPad2.

  21. 1Logic writes:

~100 MB an episode? i must get my eyes checked.

  22. Th3avatar writes:

Well it’s not playing as it is supposed to like in mplayer2, but it actually shows something viewable, that’s what I mean that it’s working on XBMC native on the ipad2, not on XBMC on PC or by putting it in ipad with itunes (who’d do that anyway?)

  23. Filesize writes:

Wow, this is 351 MB total when my the episodes I have on my HD now are 833 MB total…
Of course Coalgirls is using ordered chapters I believe for the OP/ED but still.

  24. Manabi writes:

Episode 1’s not in the DDL folder. 🙁

  25. FingerMove writes:

lol it doesn’t work on my PC because of epic blocknoise (in german: epischer Pixelkrieg!) but it works on my Asus O!Play Air HDP-R3 without any problems… interesting…

  26. vomaufgang writes:

@FingerMove: If you are using the CCCP beta build linked above – make sure to choose “reset settings” on install or it will not work. It will not work while the old settings remain.

  27. biribiri writes:

Basically, I’m all for Hi10P. Sadly, for now I can’t play it. I’m using a Mac, and the only player I found that can play Hi10P is MPlayerX, which in turn ignores Ordered Chapters. And Anime without OP and ED…. NO WAY!
Current mplayer2 build for OSX still doesn’t support this >.<
If anyone stumbles upon a compatible Mac software, let me know!

  28. solenoid writes:

If only there was the same sort of break through for FLAC…

  29. poro writes:

Wow, to think this is actually small.
    I’d even say too much.

  30. G. writes:

I’m looking forward to Hi10 making it into stable builds of things, it’s promising to be very sexy!

I do have one suggestion, though – you may want to consider labeling the torrent/files with “Hi10” or “10bit” or something akin to that. Without swinging by the site, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that this may be a file that your player won’t play.

    • coalgirl writes:

Nor should there be. Hi10 is an encoding setting that players are just starting to adapt. A year from now, everyone can play it, and everyone will be encoding in it.

  31. Tri_Edge writes:

Impressive quality given the small file size.
I’m all in for the Hi10.

  32. Rai writes:

Impressive, I’ll even give up my iPhone anime-watching capabilities if everyone jumps the Hi10 bandwagon

  33. BK_201 writes:

It’s just too bad that the 10 bit here isn’t true 10 bit output. It’s an internal decoder. If it was true 10 bit, you would need an nvidia quadro/amd fire card and a 10 bit supported ips panel to display all 10.7 billion colors. As it stands with the common 8 bit lcd monitors most everyone has is that you can only see 16.7 million colors. If this can later output a true 10 bit per channel color, I would be impressed and greatly appreciative.

  34. Swaps4 writes:

Can’t wait for everyone to be using Hi10.

  35. plague1ftw writes:

Hmmm, I’m a bit sad you pick up one of the weaker shows of this season (although depends on preference and overall season is pretty mediorce) I would love to see maybe Usagi Drop or Mayo Chiki! which I personaly enjoy and seems to fit more into the genere you usually encode.

    • coalgirl writes:

Um… How does anything fit more into the genre that I usually encode than this? Extremely cute girls doing cute things IS the genre I usually encode.

  36. asfgsfghd writes:

    @plague1ftw

there are decent groups doing both of those shows already though, but the only group worth a fuck doing this is shin-gx who are the slowest faggots in the history of the universe

  37. Gaijin-San writes:

But using beta codecs for releases, is that really wise?
Would be better if there were only samples with this new beta codec to let people see the difference if they want.
I do not really like to mess around with codecs and different packs etc.
    Especially beta codecs.

  38. bikar writes:

yea they can destroy your MBO
you must be very very careful 😛

  39. anon writes:

    @Gaijin-San

Hint: even stable versions of CCCP use trunk/dev versions of ffdshow-tryouts, which are unstable.

  40. Priscilla writes:

Does it have to be CCCP Beta from 7/15 or can I use the latest one?

  41. Rai writes:

You should probably use the latest ones as CCCP is hurrying through alot of them, almost 2 a day in fact to get Hi10 in without serious bugs. Personally I’m waiting for K-lite to jump on the ball because I think the sub renderer in CCCP is sub-par, but thats just me.

  42. bikar writes:

    K-Lite is garbage

  43. tergx writes:

I’m using MPC-HC and it works perfectly fine…

  44. c0nk3r writes:

Nice, works flawless on Linux (Debian) played with mplayer; Cpu usage just 15-20% more than usual: ca. 40-60% of a single core @800MHz without any hardware acceleration (^_^)

  45. Rai writes:

@bikar If K-lite is garbage explain to me why it works absolutely perfect on each of my computers. Spitting out that something is “garbage” just makes you look like an idiot

  46. Koby writes:

I downloaded the latest beta pack of CCCP released 7-22 and so far not that impressed. The video still has problems and my PC is unable to keep up with the opening video.

  47. coalgirl writes:

There’s a reason why I said to install the one from 7/15.

  48. Gaijin-San writes:

So we should install a beta package of CCCP to be able and watch this…

@bikar, I tried the CCCP some time ago and other movies stopped working.
So for me it was total CCCraP, K-Lite has worked without a problem so far for me.

I installed the FFDShow that misha0209 linked to earlier which works great.

It is all up to each person what codec pack or not to use and like. Of course you can always recommend to use a certain package but you can’t force someone to use a specific one.

  49. Alucryd writes:

No problems here with the latest cccp on windows, nor on arch with mplayer2 and the latest ffmpeg. Gonna switch my own encodes to this, this is awesome (bye compatibility with everything but computers though, but who cares!).
