    lol are you expanding ?

  2. idiffer writes:

    so if this is an SD upscale…i’m not following the logic of encoding this…is it really better than the dvd rips?

  3. ravil writes:

    Some screenshots please

  4. person writes:

    While the BD upscale is pretty bad it’s nicer than the DVDs. The DVDs are plagued with artifacting in any high motion scene, even the original R2J discs with one episode per disc.

  5. bikar writes:

    yes this is better then dvdrip
    and zxcvbnm6000 didn’t upscale anything

    choose your poison: mpeg artifacts on high motion scenes or terrible overfiltered upscale

    omg too many! I need a new HDD :D, thanks though!

    Ah one of my favorites! Keep up the good work.

  10. Zwill writes:

    Your guest encoder just failed the common sense encoding test with making the audio 3 times bigger than the video.

  11. Nettosama writes:

    that’s probably cause of the 3 audio tracks in FLAC.

  12. arba writes:

    Too bad ‘Hybrid Rainbow’ is missing…

  13. zxcvbnm6000 writes:

    @Zwill The audio is smaller than the source files with the FLAC encode. The commentary is the only one that is slightly larger, and if it bothers you feel free to remux.

  14. zaockle writes:

    Or you could always just BUY the BDs. They aren’t that expensive. $20.99 on amazon.com.

  15. billy writes:

    Where is Hybrid Rainbow?

  16. Laughmaster writes:

    Oh wow, this was unexpected. Thanks.

    Also, I love the new header image.

  17. Gardner writes:

    As zaockle said, you could just purchase the BD from Amazon. Funimation has just released them. Unless you are brining some else not included in the Funimation release or in the BDs from Japan I don’t see the point in this release.

  18. DM writes:

    fyi its crf 20 not crf 16 like it says in the post

  19. Laughmaster writes:

    Gardner, you really don’t get the point of fansubs, do you?

    … No, I’m not going to explain. I’ll save that headache for someone else. To put it simply, this release is, in fact, “brining some else” in that KAA’s subs are much better than Funi’s.

    • zaockle writes:

      You are a fucking idiot. KAA’s subs were just the English Dub transcribed to a fucking sub track. I have seen it first hand. Jesus christ, please never come back here if you don’t know what you are talking about.

      Also, it’s you who doesn’t get the point of fansubs. Fansubbing was started to bring new anime to America/the World faster than the companies could license it. But that’s all changing now due to simulcasting.

  20. IZEROII writes:

    Thanks for this ; )

    and yes the new banner is the shit

  21. Bloodios writes:

    This is unexpected, but I’ll grab it any, of course. My thanks to zxcvbnm6000 & ChrisK.
    By the way, the new banner is so darn awesome. What is it? I mean where is it from? From a game? An anime? Manga Art? Random Fan Art? Anyway, please provide the link to the original image so I can store it in my “Epic Artworks” Folder.

  22. Ametatsu writes:

    So.. you wanna give me credit for doing all of the styling and karaoke work? Since you copied the subs straight from my release…

  23. Ametatsu writes:

    And timing

  24. Bloodios writes:

    @ChrisK: Thanks a bunch.
    Holy smoke, it was Makoto!? I seriously failed to notice!

  25. IZEROII writes:

    Ametatsu sounds pissed. Thanks ChrisK for the full res link

  26. Gardner writes:

    Yes Laughmaster, I do know what the point of fan subs are. The point of fan subs are to bring anime that has not yet be licensed by an American company. Or in some cases may never be licensed by an American company. Titles that may not sell well (for example: Chocotto Sister or Dannou Coil). Or titles because of the nature of the content would be unacceptable to the general American audience (for example: Kodomo no Jikan or KissXSis). I also remember when fan sub groups would stop the distribution of anime that got licensed by a company. FLCL has been around in the US for a long time. I purchased the original DVD releases when they were first released by a company called Synch-Point between 2001 and 2003. I still have those DVDs. They are among the oldest in my collection. I have not purchased the Blu-Ray version put out by Funimation. I have not bothered to download anyone else’s subtitled efforts since I already own them. I do not download what I already own. If I like a series enough to collect all of it from fan subs, I always purchase either the American releases or the Japanese releases as I can afford them. Soul Eater being an example of a series I downloaded, then purchased the Japanese DVDs, then purchased the Funimation releases when they were available. Just doing my bit to keep the industry alive.

    I did purchase the HD copy released by Funimation to iTunes. I can tell you this. The english dub on the iTunes release is exactly the same as what is on the Synch-Point DVDs.

    So again, what is the point of this release?

    So this is to make thieves happy. Am I understanding you correctly? Well, I guess that makes it all ok then. I always used fan subs as a filter. The same way I used the DVDs included with the Newtype USA magazines. As a means to screen out anime I would not like so I could better spend my money. This is just plain theft. Each to his own I guess.

    Just a word of warning however… Funimation does keeps an eye out on the internet. If Coalgirls are not careful they could get shut down. I would hate to see that happen. They happen to do good work. But they really should keep it to unlicensed material.

  34. bikar writes:

    didnt Thora had to remove some funi stuff ?

  35. DmonHiro writes:

    @gardner:

    1. Yes it’s to make the theifs happy. 90% of all fansubs and 100% of all DVD/BD rips are to make the theifs happy. Welcome to the internet. Also, it’s not theft, it’s copyright infringment. If it has a different set of laws created by the American govenrment, then it’s a different crime.

    2. Half of Coalgirls releases are licensed by Funimation: Darker then Black, Sacred Blacksmith, CANAAN, Phantom…etc.

    tl;dr: go away.

  36. Ryu writes:

    @zxcvbnm6000
    For your next releases, could you disable the compression in mkvmerge?
    Dunno how to explain it correctly, since my english sucks, but you know this step you do in mkvmerge so the thumbnails are visible. Its a hassle to do so myself. Anyways I am grateful of your release.

  37. Gardner writes:

    @DmonHiro
    Yes it’s to make thiefs happy.
    Good. An honest answer for a change without the pointless rationalization usually given. I have been on the Internet for a very long time. It is refreshing to see a return to a simple honest, truthful answer.

    Also, it’s not theft, it’s copyright infringement.
    This is like arguing over how to spell the word “color”.

    You are correct about how much of Coalgirls catalog is licensed by Funimation. I have even downloaded some of it. Before it was licensed, not after. I guess that makes me a somewhat more honest thief. Well, I will go now. I know I didn’t change any minds. But at least I got an answer to my question.

  38. Iron-SG writes:

    just a question,kind of a strange one as well XD
    does left handedness play some sort of important role in the show? (haven’t watched it yet)
    the only interest I have in the show is that it’s supposed to have multiple left handed characters XD

  39. DmonHiro writes:

    Most of the characters from FLCL are left handed… it’s explained in the comentary. But really… THAT’S the only reason you want to watch this? Not because it’s one of the most awesome fiction randomnes you’ll ever see?

  40. Iron-SG writes:

    ^As of now,It’s the only thing that caught my attention 😛
    I don’t really know much about it besides the title.
    but I might like it.
    I though Ouran was overrated back then but when I finally watched it I ended up laughing while watching a lot in the first episode.
    So I’m hoping this proves me wrong just like Ouran.

  41. papsi writes:

    @DmonHiro:
    If you’re talking about “fiction randomness”, then Excel Saga is still better, at least IMHO. 😉

  42. DarkChaplain writes:

    btw, @Gardner

    The world does not only consist of America.
    Wanna know how many shows actually reach european shores?
    Over here they removed the whole anime shelves from our stores ages ago.
    You wanna buy something? Be prepared to get it second hand for 4x the original price – and thats second hand.
    BluRays? Ha~ha~

    The Internet, however, is international.
    It does span the world, and I can tell you that a lot of people from europe are happy that they can still watch good Anime in good quality while it is not being provided in any way.
    Try watching streams via Crunchyroll or Funimation from outside the US. Region Restriction, anyone?

    So yeah, I am thankful for every show CoalGirls provide.
    Due to that I can afford to buy merchandising for my favorite shows or support what I want to support. Even I prefer spending my money on things I appreciate the most.

  43. bikar writes:

    ?? Im from Europe and I have FLCL BD from Funi for same 20$

  44. idiffer writes:

    lol, some ppl still haven’t coped with the reality of fansubs. or trolling.
    @Darkchaplain
    the only country that exists outside of america is the one it is at war with at the moment.

  46. bobdoe writes:

    Oh come now Coalgirls, give the Elysium some credit.

  47. zxcvbnm6000 writes:

    @ bobdoe Who is Elysium, and why do they deserve credit?

  48. Ametatsu writes:

    Elysium would be my fansub group which did FLCL a while ago. I did literally everything on the scripts that are in this release. Including my own translations for the ED song. Not KAA’s. I don’t care if you wanna use my scripts… but I would appreciate it if you at least credited that. Especially since the song translation is NOT by KAA…

  49. zxcvbnm6000 writes:

    @ Ametatsu I asked a friend to send me subs for the KAA file since I didn’t have them; he sent me yours subs. So yes you deserve credit for that. My mistake.
