Also read the FAQ for 480p.
It appears Thora isn’t using Eclipse subs but instead some other subs which I can’t identify. This alone makes Thora a no-go.
almost all of thora’s releases have problems with my portable media player ( mostly relating to loops, no prob on pc tho) hence i’d stay with coalgirls for their awesome releases xD!
And Thora has only lossy reencoded Audio …

THORA is a no brain here: they have lossy audio, and they are using the English subs that came with the BD (official). Yup…THORA is the release to get….if you’re retarded.

I think your release will be much better than any other, but can I ask you why THORA is not doing a proper job?
640 kbps AC3 when the sources are either 5.1 PCM or 1500+ kbps DTS, and R1 subs.
Oh…so the subs really are from the R1 and the audio is awful :S

Doki looks bad. Unless you really don’t want ordered chapters, don’t pick Doki 😛 Thora and Coalgirls almost look the same. Though Coalgirls does look a little better. See Nagisa’s hair.
If you want official subs and lossy audio go with Thora. If you prefer fansubs and lossless audio go with Coalgirls.
While THORAnime have lossy audio, their videos usually have higher bitrates and some shows they encoded seems to be much sharper than others (even Coalgirls). This time around though, after I checked out the comparison pics, I see almost on different between THORAnime and Coalgirls (Doki is a toss, so I won’t mention it), and beside, Coalgirls actually use Eclipse subs (while THORAnime uses R1), and since I love their subs more than any others, I will DEFINITELY, ABSOLUTELY pick Coalgirls this time (oh, flac audio ftw btw).

I don’t mind if THORA will be faster, I’ll be watching this with your releases. Firstly, because of the subs (I don’T have any problems with official subs, but Eclipse-SS is clearly superior to them), and because they are only doing the 1080p version.

Your filtering definitely looks that best. But it looks like you cut the edges of the image off for some reason. Compare THORA and Coalgirls and you can see at the top, the image is cut off a little in Coalgirls. Unfortunate.
That’s because we are the only group that cut off the edge noise. That is not supposed to be on the visible image (overscan cuts it off), so it is not an effect, it’s a flaw in the BD itself. Cropping is proper.

I see that the 1080p OP/ED are out. I’m downloading them now. If someone wants I can mux the new subs, change the segment ID to match the original files (so the linking with the episodes can work) and upload them :3. And if people still care :P, I can do that with the 720p OP/ED too. I’ll do the 1080p for myself anyway, so I’ll upload them as soon as I have the time (tomorrow night, that is in ~20 hours from this comment’s time).
Hehe, the translation is corrected now. Aside two words, punctuation signs and capital letters, everything’s fine. That’s being picky… but hey, I am a picky bastard :). I already fixed it and mux :3

Woah, 1,7GB for one episode. That’s quite something. If every episode had that size that would make the entire series 40GB in size. I don’t really think that monstrous size is necessary… well if that’s the prize for highest quality than so be it. I’m only taking the best possible quality for Clannad.

Download both and extract the first .rar.
if you use winrar, you can open and extract the video file after downloading both parts, to tell the truth, the 1080p is quite big so I will stick with 720p

are you sure about that edge noise? the only place i see “it” is in nagisa’s, kotomi’s and tomoyo’s character intros in the OP, kyou and fuko dont have it, and its not in any other screens from thoras release

Yes. Just like how a black bar on 1/2 the screen on the bottom that only shows up 1/4 of the time needs to be cropped, so does this.
Okay, I think this issue was addressed before but I think that those posts disappeared along with the rest of the Kanon posts (old website). Anyhow, right after the OP/ED ends the last few frames from what was shown before the OP/ED started flashes on the screen. I don’t remember what was mentioned about this to be honest and I can’t find anything wrong when I check my settings. FLAC is disabled in ffdshow but checked in MPC-HC’s internal filters. “Try to open linked files” and “Merge all segments” are set to “yes” in Haali’s input settings.
i’m also having problems with the chaptered op and ed not functioning. Other than that, another perfect release.

You know what WinRAR/7-Zip is right? Download it from the official webpage(Viruses come with non-official ones sometimes) and then right click and extract the file. No other work needed. The extracting program you use should find all the parts.

I do warn you that it may take a while to extract since it’s so big. I might have preferred a file splitter that doesn’t compress the files at all, unless the video is archived and split with the lowest compression method.
This is seriously tough for me to decide on which release I should get. I like your video quality, audio quality, and choice of SS-Eclipse subtitles. But I really dislike the styling of the OP, Episode, and ED. I like Doki’s karaoke for their OP and ED, and their audio quality is good as well, but from your comparison picture their video sucks. Thora has good video quality but not as good as yours, audio isn’t good, and choice of subtitles is bad, but their styling for their episode is pleasant to look at.
I wish I could use your video and audio, use Doki’s karaoke for the OP and ED, and use Thora’s styling font for the episode. That would be perfect. I tried changing your OP and ED styling, but then the ordered chapters were totally messed up and didn’t work. Ugh :[
Philip you can use MKVmerge’s header editor to change the ‘segment Unique Id’ (SUID) with the original. So you have to mux the new fonts and subtitles with the video. Then open your new muxed file with the header editor. Also open the original file separately. Replace the new files’s SUID with the original’s, save. Ordered Chapters will work.

Thanks for the help Lemon, it was quite helpful, I got the ordered chapters to work. But now the problem is that… seeing as how I am a complete newbie when it comes to Aegisub and the techs of how anime karaoke works… I basically just took the styling, font, and Karaoke Dialogue from Doki and replaced all of that with Coalgirls’ styling, font, and Karaoke Dialogue. Unfortunately, no karaoke whatsoever showed up when I played Clannad Episode 1. The Default Episode Dialogue of the episode just continued/proceeded/overlapped on to the Opening Sequence after the Prologue. My question to you (or anyone for that matter) am I doing this entire thing incorrectly? Because when I play Coalgirl’s Opening Sequence by itself, Doki’s karaoke shows up just fine (cause I muxed in Doki’s karaoke styling with Coalgirl’s video and audio). But when I play the entire episode (“Prologue,Opening Sequence, Episode, Ending, Preview”), the Karaoke does not show up for the Opening Sequence and the Ending. How can I make it so that Doki’s Karaoke shows up during the episode when it is suppose to and how do I stop the Default Episode Dialogue from overlapping the Opening Sequence? Even though there is ordered chapters, the episode acts as if there is no ordered chapters and proceeds to continue on with the Default Episode Dialogue (it pretends that there is only “Episode 1” without the OP and ED even though there is the OP and ED).
I know I probably repeated a lot of stuff, but I wanted to make sure it all made sense.
Hmm…mc if what they say is true, then that would be really easy for me cause all I have to do is just change the style of the default episode dialogue to anything of my choosing without the hassles of Ordered Chapters which would be great! I enjoyed their Kanon release as well.
