In order to keep the option of doing season 2 available, I felt I needed to fix this series. I fixed a few errors in the subs, and re-encoded to 10-bit. I also did the ED a little different this time, concentrating more on the video and less on the credits. I am still not sure if I will do season 2 or not, but this changes it from a definite “no” to a “maybe”.

    White Album BDMVs are publicly available, and have been for months. THORA knows where to get them. In fact, they were going to do it but decided not to because the source was pretty terrible. But you don’t really care as you’re nothing more that a THORA fanboy troll.

    When you say “as my second show” does that mean you are only doing two shows total for the Fall season? Maybe I missed an announcement, but I didn’t see anything when I went back through the posts.

    RE: the subs. I think Mazui is under-rated by many. They do a good job and there shouldn’t be much if any difference b/t SS and them.

    There are many, many more issues with their subs as well. When asked about the above error on their forums, their defense was “because they are homonyms and context is ambiguous” (blackice).

    Mazui’s oreimo isn’t perfect, but with a little fixing up it easily could be. They certainly have been getting better and better every season. Gonna have to see how SS pans out (their fortune arterial hasn’t been up to par either for me), but I’m feeling like I only thought SS was good because Eclipse was in front of the name for so long.

    I checked out both Mazui and SS. Mazui is getting better, and SS tends to generally be good, but I would have to say some of the translation choices I prefer Mazui over SS. Example, Mazui uses “eroge” while SS uses “porn games”. Not really wrong, like translating anime to cartoon, but it just sounds… off… well, it’s your choice on what to choose.

    I really hope you do this series as getting a blu-ray rip from a source I trust is better than a share rip who I’ve never watched.

    @dymitr extracting a sub can be done by one line of code (lit.) but retiming a track from a TV > DVD/BD can take a while due to the difference in raws between the sources. Also, if SS and Mazui TL’d with different raws (although I’d assume both use TS encodes – let’s just assume there is a difference) and the TV is different from DVD/BD then each track has to be retimed from TV > DVD/BD for each subtitle track.

    Please get rid of this misconception that releases = raws + script slapped on together.

    Just wanted to add that I had watched episode 1 from every group for the sake of comparison and found Doki’s to be the most clear and (from what I can tell) accurate. Usually whenever SS is involved, I go with them without a second thought, but I would put them second to Doki’s translation this time around. I just wanted to put in a good word for them, since I don’t think you would normally ever consider them when a group like SS is available. I know I wouldn’t.

    That would be great! Honestly I think their release will be fine but they won’t finish it for months (they are still doing Rideback and they only just finished True Tears).

    Kira is also doing this using Mazui’s subs, and their 1080p will have FLAC. I would prefer to get your release though.

    perhaps you could consider using other subs besides mazui, because it seems that both kira and thora are using mazui’s, ie to avoid overlap as stated in the primary post

    Focusing on a 720p only release due to THORA focusing on a 1080p only release is a good, mature decision in my opinion. One could even say that you being able to invest the time that would have been spent on the 1080p release in some other project is much more beneficial from a community point of view.

    I also think it’s a good thing you went with Mazui’s subs. SS’ subs for this show didn’t quite reach their usual level of quality in my opinion, and their hardsubbing is a negative. Good luck!

    Is it really all interlaced? The Amagami BDs were only partially interlaced but they look really good at 1080p.

    So the logical step would be that the note still applies. Not the more farfetched theory that they forgot to remove it. 🙂
