    looking forward…

  2. Bloodios writes:

Is the “+4” preferred to the Gaiden episodes?

  3. Trey writes:

@bloodios:i am guessing it is ,even though there not part of Darker than Black: Ryuusei no Gemini and more of a short in between s1 & s2 so should be posted separately .

  4. S.O.B writes:

    HELL YEAH!!!!

  5. asdf-chan writes:

Not sure but didn’t they take Anbu and BSS too?

Who knows. This was the popular demand that intrigued me the most, so people want it either way.

  6. eehureum writes:

didn’t bss release bd? what was wrong with theirs?

  7. ChaelMi writes:

@eehureum: yeah they did, but only the first 3 episodes

  8. Lemon writes:

no Macross F ever then? T_T

I wanted to watch this so BD is good 🙂

  9. Tiago writes:

Are you doing first season too?
(sorry if I missed some comments)

  10. loler writes:

Great news! thanks a lot coalgirls 😉 for the one who asked for Macross F BD’s I believe THORA made those so you can just grab their release.
As for DtB2 on BD’s, this is great news as I was planning to grab a version for archive but it just seemed no one would make a proper version of the BD’s. All I hope is that the file sizes won’t be an overkill, or my HDD might have a tough time taking it xD

  11. lonewolf writes:

using two diffrent groups subs? wouldn’t be better stick with one?

  12. loler writes:

    @lonewolf

They’re going to use ANBU’s for episodes 1-12, which is the entire series.
The +4 is for the OVA’s which ANBU didn’t sub, so that doesn’t matter much.

  13. Gar writes:

I remember you didn’t like the blu-rays of the first season…will the second season be different?

Season 2 is 2.0 PCM over 2 episodes which is a lot more doable than 5.1 Dolby TrueHD to FLAC over 5-6 episodes likes season 1 using last year’s technology.

Even S1 should be much easier with major updates to mkvextract and mkvextractgui.

  14. Nats writes:

Please tell me there will be a 1080p version. D:

  15. reply-kun writes:

Please tell me too there will also be a no bloat version. D:

excellent choice for a show that desperately needs a HD release.

    Slow thora is slow

and who knows what subs grohotun used

  17. tormaid writes:

lol, CRF encoding is bizarre… Angel Beats @CRF13 is less than a gig per episode. Is there allot of grain or something in this?

  18. coalgirls writes:

Yeah, there was a lot of grain. I don’t like to remove grain, so it results in a larger file size for shows like this and Haibane Renmei. Also, episode 3 has a two minute long electric shock sequence which results in 200 MB of bitrate being needed for the first 2 minutes.

1080p is nice, if you do season 1 you’ll have to do the same thing for consistency. (hint, hint.)

  21. Nats writes:

    Oh-em-gee, 1080p!

I love you, Coalgirls. I -fucking- love you. <3

  22. suiton writes:

    i got season 1 from thor-anime and they’re doing season 2…

    i’ll wait for them..

    =D

  23. 1337 writes:

    great thanks!

  24. ChaelMi writes:

grohotun use bss subs, for those who want to know.
    @suiton: thora’s gonna do season 2?

  25. coalgirls writes:

THORA’s had it in their topic as DtB2? for about 9 months. The ? was added recently and makes me think that they won’t do it at all.

  26. fenixdown110 writes:

Adenosin from Thora doesn’t seem to be around anymore. Bounen no Xamdou is still waiting on the last 3 discs… I don’t think they’ll do DtB2 either.

  27. slasha writes:

Adenosin is not around? Well, look into the channel and see for yourself.

  28. david88 writes:

    brb, new Hdd.

  29. Nats writes:

Want 1080p really bad, so please release it. :3 Once or twice an episode for 1-2 seconds, I can live with that.

  30. MikeP writes:

You’re original suggestion was that the series was only worth 720p.

Skip the 1080p, save you’re time and bandwidth and use them for something else.

  31. fakenamestar writes:

pfff that tiny corruption is to meek to warent a redo or a scrap. Can easily deal with it.

  32. Khazar writes:

1080p would be great and a little corruption(if it is even there) should be acceptable 🙂

  33. loler writes:

Skip the 1080p in my honest opinion. the series wasn’t worth a 1080 release in the first place, so why bother? and if it has corruptions even more so. I find it weird that people would want a 1080p version which is worse than a 720p version.

  34. coalgirls writes:

    http://i51.tinypic.com/2dgoy37.png isn’t what I’d call tiny, fakenamestar

  35. Khazar writes:

I think fakenamestar meant little like not often and only for some short seconds ^^ and after all it is still not proven that 1080p has caught it

  36. tormaid writes:

I’d rather you just drop the 1080p if there is corruption. The native resolution is closer to 720 anyway.

  37. Gyzome writes:

    1080p vs 720p>1080p comparison please

  38. Bloodios writes:

The 1080p will be an upscaled version anyway (even the 720p version looks like an upscale), let’s just toss it.

  39. ChrisK writes:

    yeah, drop it.

  40. fenixdown110 writes:

@slasha: Well he is around, but not doing anything. I think that’s almost the same as him not being around. lol They have so many projects to finish. I don’t know why they’ll randomly start new ones and then leave those unfinished too.

  41. Heretical Owl writes:

Didn’t BSS say the BDs for this were hella compressible? Isn’t that why they were able to maintain such good quality with such small file size? All their BD encodes for this series (eps 1-3) were under 400MB and looked good.

They said that they were more compressible than the TV rips. Which is logical and expected. My rips use a slightly lower crf value and FLAC audio, however, so they will be larger.

  42. esko writes:

@fenixdown110: He is around and he IS doing something. Or atleast someone has been upping a load of Casshern Sins episodes to THORA-bots, only 3 eps remaining till they finish the series.

  43. fenixdown110 writes:

@esko: But how do we know for sure? He was haitus for several months before. He finishes a more recent recent one than old ones that people want. i.e. GITS 1/2 gig, Spice and Wolf, Bounen no Xamdou, etc… I would compare Thora to Blizzard. They’re both good, but take a shit long time to produce anything.

  44. fenixdown110 writes:

Another thing to add to the Casshern Sins being released first. It’s like making the patches and expansions for WoW rather than work on something else like Diablo 3 and SC2 protoss/zerg campaigns.

  45. don writes:

please don’t use huge insane large size of files…
its waste of time to download it..
please be clever on your encoding jobs..

    You see “Bitrate – 2600 kbps”? That means it’s ~600 MB/file, probably 8-9 GB for 16 episodes.

  46. OniSamurai writes:

@don: Obviously you forget where you are. These releases are purely about quality. If adding another 10gb to the combined batch makes it look slightly better, then they’re going to do it. Maybe you should look elsewhere if size is a problem for you. Hell their Heroic Age 1080p is 66.2gb, that should be a telltale sign.

  47. esko writes:

@fenixdown110: Casshern Sins is the second oldest project that is still listed as “active”, started in March 2009. I certainly don’t mind if they finally finish the series. For Spice and Wolf you can get the niizk release if you want and for Xam’d they have trouble getting the source. I do agree about GITS though, considering it was released as a boxset they should have everything they need to finish it.

Going a bit offtopic here btw :/

  48. philip writes:

    coalgirls has a kind soul.

  49. loler writes:

    @OniSamurai
Lol man, if you want “the best quality available” buy the blurays, it doesn’t get any better than that.
Don’t wanna buy the blurays? get the 1080p version and don’t say foolish things, not everyone has the money for big HDD’s, so at least in the 720p version we CAN ask for smaller file sizes that don’t rape our HDD’s. its up to Coalgirls to choose whether to bloat the file size for a small and probably unnoticeable increase in quality.
If its in 1080p, hell yeah don’t hold back, if it’s 720p don’t go crazy cause people who download 720 versions are the people who actually care about file size to quality ratio, otherwise they would just get the 1080p.

    tl;dr – no. 720p shouldn’t be bloated, 1080p can be.
