So, you’ve probably noticed that I haven’t released anything in over 3 months. Not only that, but I’ve only released 2 series since getting my job in late May.

It’s about time to be straight – I don’t see myself returning to vigorous fansubbing again. Simply put, my interests have sort of just changed over the past 9 (!) years. I’d rather write, game, and work than continue to sub.

That said, let’s give information about any project that may possibly have been announced or started.

Aikatsu – Will finish to the end of Starlight Academy’s series.
Aikatsu Awards Show – Cancelled
Aikatsu Stars – Cancelled
Asterisk – Will complete. Will work using FFF subs as far as possible, and switch to Heroine when I run out of their subs.
Evangelion – Sure, I’ll come back and do this when it’s released in 2020.
Gochiusa – Will complete.
Grand Monogatari Project – Cancelled
Kizumonogatari – Cancelled
Koyomimonogatari – Will start and complete. We’ve already put too much work into it.
Rewrite – Cancelled
Sailor Moon – Cancelled
Yuru Yuri S3 – Will complete using FFF as far as possible, and then Horrible + My own bad TSing to do 11-12.

Maybe you’re celebrating. Maybe you’re mourning. Either way, it is what it is. That said, I am calling this a hiatus instead of a retirement because as my old friend Cloud668 used to say, you never can truly retire from fansubbing.

A question are we going to see any kind of “Grand Torrent Release” with all your projects as one massive torrent?

    • ♦Tenshi♦ writes:

A quick check on the size of that torrent would put it around 5TB……..

  3. OwO writes:

Despite all the hiatus, do you guys consider subbing Kimi No Nawa when its BD’s release? It would be a huge lost for all your beautiful work up till now

I know that you are on hiatus but any ETA on Koyomimonogatari ?

  22. Level6 writes:

Sionara. Anime is truly dead now.

  23. Delta writes:

not dead just slowing down remember the 90s was steady then in the mid 2000s really exploded into life its been 10 good years was a good run either way plus we should see better show releases in the for see able future no more rush jobs nice and slow perfection needs time but if people see its dead fair point depending on tastes but its a matter of perspective

Unfortunately, pretty much all of the good fansubbing groups have now gone on hiatus. Coalgirls was one of the last few left standing. I can’t think of any BD-encoder groups that are still active.

Thank you for all your hard work over these years!

  29. fillop writes:

Thanks a lot for all the effort and time you put into subbing 🙂

First time I’ve looked at CG in a while and surprised to see this announcement at the top of the page! Just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work in getting out quality releases, particularly those that don’t see a home video release in the west. Life catches up with us all though as I know far too well. Wish you all the best!

  32. Shu Ouma writes:

    Really painful to read. *Tear*
Thank you so much for all the amazing releases you’ve done. I wish that you at least finish the projects that was in your list not canceling some of them. Anyways, good luck in your lives.

  33. VermilionBird writes:

    Any news on Koyomimonogatari?

  34. Flat Dragon writes:

Never posted comments, but I have always seeded to a minimum ratio of 2.5 and in the last year I made the switch to 10.0

Grabbed a couple new series that seemed interesting and then noticed a tiny little link labeled “Hiatus” and cringed a bit to think that the site won’t see any huge updates or new content until this hiatus comes to an end. Even so, I would definitely like to thank you (despite being a few months late) for all the hard work you’ve put into these projects. You will be missed.

Hopefully someone can pick up the slack with fansubbing – and hopefully they have at least half the skill you do!

    Take ‘er easy, coalgirls!

  35. Rayne writes:

Well, coalgirls. It has been a lot of fun over the years. I’ll miss you. Take care with life and see you in 2020 when 1.0+3.0 is released and Kanya West is President.

  36. OnRazersEdge writes:

I’m really sad to see you go. Whenever I LOVED an anime, I found it with your name on it because the quality was second to none.

Hopefully you’ll consider working on very few and select anime’s in the future, maybe just 1 or 2? A guy can dream!

Thank you for all of your years of wonderful anime! And if you ever need a TLC person to look over scripts, feel free to ask! I can’t translate, but I’ve seen a lot of anime through the years, and my English language skills aren’t bad.

Take care and I look forward to your final masterpieces.

  37. skyhack writes:

    Well, shoot.
This looks pretty final. We’ll miss you, your releases are first-rate.

Good luck in anything and everything.

  38. Robert writes:

Your more recent posts were deleted (at least when I view the site) as nyaa was so I would like to confirm, will your encode/TL of koyomimonogatari still be released in due time?

  39. KK writes:

You have been my favorite group since i jumped off the commie bandwagon, and caught my eye even sooner. You were one of the groups that carried us through the ages. So like skyhack says, Good luck in anything and everything.

  40. G3n0c1de writes:

For now, I’m not going to assume they’re done just yet.

While it was nice to hear that Koyomimonogatari was in the plans, the most recent post was a call for help that they don’t need anymore.

Hopefully that means that the post was deleted because it wasn’t needed.

    Let’s just be patient.

  41. Mr Boo writes:

“Coalgirls – We will do what we want, and do not care about your opinion.” So shut down your site, we don’t care about you either just your releases. BITCHES

  42. Bancai writes:

    Hey man,

A long time ago when Katanagatari was finished and everyone was raving about it I decided to try the series and downloaded 2 episodes from coalgirls subs. I didn’t like it, maybe at the time I wasn’t in the mindset and mood for what Katanagatari is. Now after so many years I was again left wondering what anime to watch and remembered I once downloaded a few ep of Katanagatari and after finishing those 2 episodes I wanted the rest of the episodes from the same subbing group, so here I am and thank god you have your own torrent file for your subbed anime. Now I read this hiatus message and I want to say that I know how much it takes to translate and sync the subtitles for a 5 min video, let alone for 25-30 min, so I applaud you for your work and I wish you luck and much fun in life.

TL;DR – Best of luck mate

I rather understand you quiet well, as there are a lot things that can bring us enjoyment. Now you decided to make you life more diverse, it’s wonderful. Since you’ve seen a lot of anime the idea of trying something new will not be a shock to you, but that’s one thing you will have to do outside your daily envelope. Hmm, why won’t you try taking a flight lesson? You possibly can not imagine horizons you will see. (Speaking from personal experience). There are lots of other possibilities out there.
Probably you still will sub things that you consider interesting as they come 🙂 although to say, myself doing the same not really to eager to have them widely released, just close fans…
Feel that you what to get in touch? You more than welcome, due to my work schedule, may take a few days to reply.
    Good luck!
